Need somewhere to vent a little. My doc isn't listening. My foot has been hurting for almost a week now. Docs P. A. just looked at it and determined it wasn't gout. Not turning red or anything. Started out at the ball area right behind the toes. Now my ankle is hurting as well. It hurts bad enough I am thinking of going in and getting it looked at. I didn't injure it that I know of.

Pic is where the pain started.

My friend that sounds like the Kings disease to me. I hope it isn't and that you just have a muscle strain. Take some 800mg motrin 3 times a day every 8 hrs for 2 days and see if it still hurts. If it does it is either really f uped or you have something else going on like gout.

Ask for a referral to a podiatrist if they are blowing you off... Or see a different doc, maybe a quick check at an urgent care... A fresh set of eyes from a different doc might be good. Also there is a blood test to see if you have gout. If your uric acid levels are high, that is a pretty sure thing, or you just drank a whole lot the night before. I didn't have mush inflammation when I had a episode, so not all lgout issues have inflammation.

Hope you figure out what it is!

Had the exact thing happen. Did the blood test and wasn't within the perimeters of acid level of gout. But like the dr said....you don't have to have gout to have gout like symptoms.

For what it's worth, mine happened 4-5 times and then no more. Been about a year now.

King Soopers, vitamin and herb section. Black Cherry Syrup. Chug away. If is a gout related symptom. This should help take the flare up away within a day or less. If not then it's something else.

I have gout. Feels like you broke your foot. FNG hurts. Elevating it doesn't help. Ice, nope. Try this, if not, DR visit.

Hope this helps.

Check out if your symptoms match Chilblains. I had this earlier this year and it sucked if I went out in the cold. Soaking in hot water helped. It can be caused from heat extremes. For me this was running ~5 miles followed by too much heating. The onset was from being vitamin B deficient.

Hope you get better. Foot pain can really suck when you are on your feet a lot.

I'm thinking Plantar Fasciitis, since it hurts from one end to the other.

Wheatridge and Lakewood: go see Dr. Valenti, great guy.

Could still be gout. Get tested. We men get it worse than the ladies. Our testosterone helps create the uric acid crystals while the ladies' hormones have a protective effect against the crystals even with elevated uric acid levels. I've had severe attacks where my feet ballooned up and turned red, but other times in my big toe, instep, and ankle where it really wasn't visibly noticeable. I've had broken bones, and the pain of gout seems to hurt worse than that. Insidious stuff. Go to bed feeling OK and wake up in the morning unable to walk.

Before I self-diagnosed my gout, I had numerous doctors over the years tell me that I had a "soft tissue injury". The crazy thing was that I couldn't remember injuring myself. They would tell me to ice it, even put me in a walking boot a couple of times.

I had talked to some folks and did some research on my own. I went to the Dr. and told him, "I think I have gout." He had my blood tested...and I had gout. I'm on Uloric now and it's working very well for me.

Man I hate foot pain. I do hope it's not gout for your sake, and it something easily fixed. Gout is a major PITA - when it's bad, it's the worst pain I have ever felt. Way worse than a broken bone.

Hang in there, hope you find a good doc.

Sure sounds like gout to me. I'm on allopurinol for it myself. It's a wonder drug IMHO. Gout is the worst pain I have ever had. My buddy gets it in his knee. He's crippled when it flares up.

Hopefully you have something different and temporary. Good luck.

Black cherry helps my gout also. I do the R. W. Knudsen "Just Black Cherry" juice at the first sign of a flare up. Good luck

I've also tried dried cherries- not easy to find, but they have stopped an attack cold when taken with lots of water.

So how much usually does the trick? I'm munching Ibuprofen for what they are assuming is gout right now

I had something like that, it ended up being some medication I was on made my right toe hurt. It would get better and then get worse. I finally realized the connection matched when I remembered to take the daily med. I can't remember the name, but it's one of those meds they give you to make sure you don't go diabetic.

That is good, hope you get better...
I wouldn't wish a gout attack on anyone- worst one I had (it was in the ankle joint) had me thinking removing the foot was a viable option at one point.

When I got gout, I had no idea what was happening. They gave me allopurinol and gradually increased the doses, but nobody told me it would make it worse before things got better. My wife found the black cherry extract thing online and bought me a bottle. I just went to town on it, and I thought I was going to break the porcelain with liquid. Nothing like wiping between your shoulder blades...

[facepalm]

Anyway, Sparky... any other ideas? Hope it's just a passing thing...

Possibly the sesamoid bones. Got something for inflammation to try first. If that doesn't work off to the foot doctor.

This is true, not as bad as sugar free Gummy Bears, but still dont stray too far from a toilet. Even at 1 - 2 ounces of concentrate to 8 - 10 ounces of water dilution twice a day, can loosen your bowels to the point of calling in sick to work.

I hope you're feeling better Sparky, my problem is ongoing. The right foot which they thought was gout was actually a Siamese bone that broke, had to go to Podiatry to get this figured out

Working with a walking boot as a electrician is no fun and it slows you down pretty bad but I was able do some work, ended up over doing it about a week ago and my left foot started hurt bad, went to see the doc, saw a nurse practitioner who said it was just inflamed which was believable. week later follow up with Podiatry, right foot much better but of course another 3 weeks in the walking boot for the bone to heal left foot has been declaired gout due to 6.8 UA level, cherry red big toe that hurts worse than the broke one did and this image

They say that "bite" out of the bone is characteristic of gout. at this point I am worthless, can't work, may as well try the cherry juice, as I'm home anyway

First, I try to find out it is radiating pain inflammation or sharp pain.
Of course gout has a sharp pain as well. Some MDs who doesn't have experience with gout patients, would misdiagnose it. It is not just raised uric acid, but also change in uric acid in the body as well.
I had a MD who did not know it was gout at Wardenburg Health Center.

I had some really bad foot pain. I changed from cheap tennis shoes and boots to quality footwear and the pain was gone in a week.
