View Full Version : Crosstac vs. Midway
I'm in the market for a new shooting mat. The Crosstac looks like better build quality and more practical for my needs. Plus it keeps money at a Colorado company. I like the folding feature and the bipod rail. However the price leaves something to be desired. The Midway mat has tons of great reviews, and for $50, seems hard to beat. It's hard to tell in the photos, (I'm on a tablet) if it's a dark color. I don't want it to get scorching hot in the summer as my little girl shoots with me a lot. So, anyone here have the Crosstac or Midway mat? Pros and con's? Thanks.

Really like my Midway mat. It has a strap for the bipod instead of the bar, and the strap works well for me. The extra padding at the elbow and knee locations is nice too.
Its a pretty true OD Green color. Haven't had mine out in direct sunlight yet to tell if it gets really hot, but I suspect it will be OK.

Yoga mat from big 5 and buy a moving blanket from harbor freight. :) $30 total. ha
I have a CrossTac mat and really like it. Colorado Company owned by a Vet. Stores flat, lots of padding and light. Yes the price tag blows.
Yeah +1 for the Midway mat. Very comfortable and reasonably priced.
I have both. The midway mat gets very, very hot in the sun. I started with the midway and just bought the cross tac. I wish I'd bought the cross tac first.
The thing that has kept me from buying the Crosstac is that I don't know how I would attach it to a backpack. With the Midway I can just roll it up and mount it on the bottom or top of my pack like a bedroll.
That said I have never actually used the Crosstac. If anyone has a good idea on how to attach it up comfortably I would be willing to try it. Looks like it is really well made.
I bet the CrossTac mat will roll up. Never tried.
I have a Creedmore roll up mat with rubber elbow pads for High Power. Good mat but the pads get smoking hot in the sun.
Zach, you should come over and try them both. The feel of the CrossTac is really nice on a flat surface. The bi-pod rail works very well. The Midway mat might actually be better on uneven ground. Not sure of that since I haven't tried the CrossTac in the grass yet.

I have a midway mat as well. The PVC section will sting you on a hot summer day.
Thanks for the input gentleman. I ordered the CrossTac. Ya know, so the little one doesn't get burned..... Tim, thanks for the offer, I ordered it before I saw your post.
I think you won't be disappointed. It's for the children.
