The largest wholesale gun & ammo distributors in the US have informed us in private conversation today that a massive scramble is on for all 7.62 as Russia has reportedly halted all exports to the US of Russian made ammunition.
Our distributor source informed us that yesterday they had several hundred thousand rounds of Russian made 7.62 TulAmmo, and after receiving word early today on the halt of Russian exports to the US, they have been completely wiped out of every last round in the past 10 hours!
ETA: This story is likely a hoax, as there are no "credible" sources reporting on this.
ETA: Or is it?

Russia is bordering on a war, why would they export what they could use? I read this somewhere else today as well but I can't remember where. With the Obama and UN talk of sanctions against Russia maybe this is the first of the FU's we will get?
Just for shits and giggles i searched for the the earliest mention of this info and it came from no other then silverdoctors.com, who ever the fuck they are but they do sell some ammo and have 7.62 in stock [ROFL1]
http://www.silverdoctors.com/breaking-ammo-rush-begins-again-as-russia-halts-soviet-ammunition-exports-to-the-us/#more-39649
It is a hoax. Sad thing is its making its rounds around the internet already.
I am guessing they will want to export more of that crappy ammo to take out more US small arms. [ROFL1]

What are the chances American gun owners already have more stored away for a rainy day than the Russian army has?

I am not so sure about that statement, Your own Govt is giving them a run for their money these days. IMHO

As long as the vodka keeps flowing.
I know it's BS but actually I do see something like it happening soon, though I think it will be the other way around and this will give Obama his chance to halt all ammo and weapon imports.

Why would Russia want to limit ammo coming to the US? It's not like the US Government is stockpiling Tulammo in 7.62.... Instead AMERICANS are stockpiling Tulammo in 7.62. Why would Russia want to empower the US government and promote domestic stability of their biggest political and military rival? I'm just thinking out loud here...

Because most of their small arms are not chambered for 7.62x39mm among other reasons.

7.62x39 ! = 5.45x39
I don't pay much attention to the Russian military but yeah. Every time I watch a video or something online the soldiers are rocking 5.45 or 9x39 rifles.
Does it really hurt to have some extra on hand. Do you think it is going to get easier to find? 15 years ago I bought cases on sale for $69.99. In another 15 years will I be saying "i remember when a case was $240.00"?
There's a case for sale in the TP now for $1,000
aha, made you look.

Heard mentality is extremely dangerous.
That is correct Chuck. Back in 1957, while in the Army, there was a serious scuffle between some Arab Countries and I was getting more than a little concerned. A high ranking NCO, who had been in Intelligence told me, "Believe nothing of what you HEAR and only half of what you SEE".
Sounds about correct for this Russki ammo allegation crap.[blaster]

5 mins ago I was able to put 5k rounds of Wolf in my cart at Sportsman's Guide (didn't buy it...just checking to see if it was really available). $240 per thousand.
Just for grins I bought another case (2160 rounds) which should arrive on my porch this week (just got the shipping notice from UPS). Total cost including shipping; $346.77 for a cost of $.16 per round.
Do I need it? Since what did need have to do with what I buy with my money? [Coffee]
We might have a problem with Obumholes EO today. Section 1 (B) is what got my attention, what do you guys think.
http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2014/03/17/executive-order-blocking-property-additional-persons-contributing-situat
Section 1. (ii) persons determined by the Secretary of the Treasury, in consultation with the Secretary of State:
(A) to be an official of the Government of the Russian Federation;

(D) to have materially assisted, sponsored, or provided financial, material, or technological support for, or goods or services to or in support of:
(1) a senior official of the Government of the Russian Federation; or

That section just describes persons that the administration could add to the list of people that get their property seized as part of the sanctions against the Russian Federation as a result of their invasion of the Ukraine.
If someone has purchased ammunition from a Russian manufacturer and paid for it in good faith (ie., not a sham transaction ) prior to their name being added to the list, that ammo won't be seized.

Even if that is how it works, this will absolutely result in yet another run on ammo.
/sigh

Thanks for the clarification, i could not determine if section 1 (B) was only for the list or in addition to the list.

Great the one caliber I'm little shy on.
Okay No Tula. No Golden Bear. No Wolf.
Not being able to buy Tula/Wolf/Bear ammo won't change my life.
We will just import more PPU and PMC.
They think we ONLY look like a super power , because we can manufacture anything.

In Pueblo and dealer says he can't get the ammo any more due to the crisis in Ukraine:
http://www.krdo.com/news/local-gun-store-owner-says-ammunition-shortage-linked-to-crisis-in-crimea/25147910
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -A local gun store owner said Monday the crisis in Crimea is to blame for a shortage of ammunition imported from Russia.
Over the weekend, Russia completed the takeover of Crimea. Ukrainian troops were forced to surrender as Russians moved in. The acting Ukrainian Foreign Minister called the situation more explosive than it was a week ago.Paradise Sales owner Paul Paradis said the crisis in Crimea could impact his bottom line. He said his suppliers are out of ammunition imported from Russia.
"We probably sell more of these types of Russian ammunitions then any two or three of their quote 'american calibers,'" said Paradis.
Right now Paradise Sales can't get several types of Russian-made ammunitions from its suppliers.
"I have no body that has any that I deal with across the country so it's pretty much been all bought out," said Paradis.
He isn't sure if the shortage can be attributed to lack of shipments from Russia, or nervous gun sellers snatching up supplies.
"Whenever people are afraid that something might not be available in the future they are going to buy up everything they can at time so we are seeing a big rush on eastern-block ammunitions," said Paradis.
Three other gun store owners said they haven't noticed an impact on their inventory from the crisis. Jeff Lepp with Specialty Sports and Supply in Colorado Springs said he was not worried and did not plan on increasing his orders of Russian-made ammunition from his suppliers.
Paradis said it's too early to tell if this crisis in Crimea will have a long-term impact on some of his store's most popular products. He said there are other Eastern European countries capable of producing similar ammunition at a similar price.

Hmmm, once again I just got an email from one of my suppliers that 5.45 is back in stock, price hasn't changed.. apparently they aren't concerned. Quit spreading BS, there is no shortage and there has been no halt of exports/imports.
Paradis sounds like a jackass... at least Lepp and the other guys mentioned appear to be sane and run ethical businesses.

Mr Paradis must not know where or how to find ammo.

Usac sales has 1.8million rounds of 5.45 in stock at about the lowest price on the web.
Sg has plenty of 5.45 and 7.62x39
I looked into this as well and I can find7.62x39 pretty much every where...Sportsman's Warehouse, Cabela's, F.E. Warren BX, local shops etc. for $6 per box of 20 which is what is has been prior to the Ukraine crisis. This article seemed to sum it up nicely too http://bearingarms.com/russian-ammunition-cutoff-rumors-are-bogus/

USACsales raised their price $10 per case on 5.45, but it's still the cheapest around ($168 per)
I haven't seen a shortage.
C'mon, guys. Putin knows that Obama is trying to make political hay by advocating more gun control laws. Continuing to supply us with cheap ammo is a total [fyou] to Obama.
