View Full Version : Yep. It's just Colorado.

This is something of a repost. I posted a similar thread a year or so ago. I just couldn't find it.

Anyhow, last time I was in the Sportsmans Warehouse off 84th they were really picked over and hardly had any ammo or reloading stuff. It's pretty much looked like that for years now.

So today I went to the Sportsmans Warehouse in Casper, Wyoming.

It looks nothing like the one up near my house. The shelves are full of primers, powder, and other reloading stuff. Plenty of ammo on hand too in just about any caliber you want.

It was nice to see thirty round AR mags just hanging on the racks as well. Hell, they even had four or five of the forty round Pmags on hand.

Seems it's just Colorado that is picked over constantly by people hoarding stuff or trying to resell on Armslist for a quick profit.

Or it could be that the population of the Denver Metro Area is roughly 50 times the population of Casper (and 5 times the population of the entire state of Wyoming)?

Nope cause my brother told me Washington and Oregon are both pretty full and have almost everything you could want on hand....sans .22 LR

I travel a lot in the summer and every where I go has a better ammo supply than here, Wyoming utah Idaho New Mexico Montana Texas. I don't know if we just have a lot of hoarders or the ammo manufactures are pissed that we passed gun control laws. Needless to say I stock up when I see it and bring it home.

CONVOY!!!

Yeah, went to Tucson a couple weeks ago and ammo was even on WalMart shelves. Small gun store my father in law goes to had to store some still in cases on the floor as he didn't have the shelf space for all of it. I did grab some .45 and .380 to bring home. No .22 LR though. People there pissed about that as much as people here.

No, we just have a lot of Fu*ked up people that did a bunch of stupid Sh*t that made the news. Columbine, Aurora Theater, were our biggest. So they label all of us as ummm not so stable gun toting rednecks who shouldn't have as much as the other states. After Columbine "Sportsman's Guide" put a restriction on knives that could be shipped here. If the blade was over 4 - 5" long no sales to CO. You look at it now. Since the High cap restriction and no sales of said HC mags foe CO. They will allow certain knife's IE over the 5" length to be shipped. So here ya go CO. we at SMG don't want to loose all of our sale to your state so we'll let you have the bigger knives. But no way hosay on mags!!!!!! [facepalm]

My local shops only started building up a supply of the popular calibers of pistol/rifle ammo on the shelves in the past month. Before that, if anything hit the shelves it was purchased immediately.

Primers/powders are slowly starting to come back too, but there still isn't a huge selection. Heading to a reloading shop tomorrow that I found two weeks ago (bought 2lbs of IMR4064 and they have quite a few 8lb jugs). Transferring a pistol with them and if they have stuff in stock, I might be buying some powder/primers as well.

22LR is still the one caliber I can't find. Saw a guy shooting it last week at the range, we chatted for a while and I commented that he must be filthy rich if he can afford 22LR. We both got a great laugh out of that, but I could tell all of the ammo he was shooting was at least 5-10yrs old based on the condition of the packaging. [LOL]

Went to the NMGC gun show in Albuquerque a week ago. Mountains of magazines, plenty ammo and a decent amount of .22 ammo but the .22's were not at decent prices. Bought nothing but fuel to get there and it was $3.19 gal down in NM.

I must say though here is a lot better then I had it in NY.
Almost all calibers were double the price, when you can lay your hands on it .And .22 was a fairy tale...

My brother in CA has no issues buying ammo at his local Walmart and get this, he is paying just over half of the $47.95 that my local Walmart want for WWB 9mm, if they have it at all.

$47.95 for WWB 9mm? The Wal Marts around here have it for like $26-27. That is crazy. You sure that isn't 45?

Agree. If I happen into a Walmart, often to pick up a few things needed while traveling, I always mosey on by the guns & ammo. Usually a couple of AR's and longuns in the cases, but ammo pretty much cleaned out as well and I've yet to see another Wally with reloading supplies.

Having recently come from Florida, I find it easier to get ammo here, even with the craziness. I walked into the local Walmart this morning and they had just opened up a new box of Winchester value pack for $26 and some change. I bought five boxes. They had a bunch of it left.

Every time I go to the Walmart gun counter, there are three people looking for boxes of .22LR. That seems to be the stuff around here.

And 9mm. Was there at lunch and nothing. Looks like they must have had federal 100 packs earlier though, the sticker was still there. 9 seems to be harder to come by the past few weeks for some reason?

I just came back from AZ a few pounds heavier in 22LR. It was a little pricy, but it was decent for today's prices. The one shop I was going to had daily limits, but after a week and a half of daily trips, I had enough to feel comfortable going shooting for awhile and they still had plenty on the shelves.

Oddly enough, the one thing my family hasn't been able to find reliably down there has been 30-30. I offered to set up an exchange program with them.

F&ck Cabelas. The reason there is never any 22lr there is because they hoard if for these stupid sales. The more I go in there, the less I like the place.

That's pretty much my conclusion also. I've been in 4 times since they opened, buying something only twice of those 4. The more I go in there, the less I like it... but i'm glad it's there and like it better than Gander or JAX, that's for sure.

I'll take a Cabela's any day over all the other big stores. They may hoard it but at least they can get it and are selling it at non-panic prices. Even if they didn't hoard it until a big event and they were putting it out as soon as they got it it would be gone in minutes so I don't see what difference it makes? Just like Wal Mart or any others It's gone as soon as it hits the shelves.
I wish they would have build a Cablea's here in the Springs instead of Bass Pro.

I love Cabela's and what they do. 1st 22 lr ammo. They may get a case in. But they only put 1/2 or so out at a time. 1st come 1st serve. And they do NOT do it at certain day's of the week. They make it fair for everyone who comes in the door. May be when they open?? May be mid day?? May be at night??

I like Sportsman's Warehouse but. They advertise, ammo on this day. Gone. Powder and bullets on this day. Gone.

Walmart. Be there at 6am on ??? day. No one knows, stand in line and you might get some 22 ammo. But if your 6th or more in line. To Bad so sad.

Cabela's same with powder, primers, etc. They try to make it fair so everyone get a piece of the pie.

So you dislike a cabelas because they set up a time when you will actually have a good chance to acquire some very hard to find ammo given the time? When was the last time you've seen 22lr at a local Walmart?

Went to Gander Mtn outside Madison, WI and they had plenty of 223, 556, 40 and 45. Did not have an 9 for plinking and of course no 22 on the shelf. Did not see what they had for reloading. Prices were inflated of course.

I went to the Thornton store, the line started to form before 6 and was probably 60-70 deep by 7, probably a couple hundred by 8 when the door opened. They came out around 7:15 and passed out #'s (for 22lr of course)and made a credit card offer(20 dollars off if you're approved for a Cabelas Card). They advertised Winchester M-22 copper plated HP but sold Blazer LRN, 1,000 rounds for just under $49.00. Limit was 2 bricks per person and when I walked out around 8:10 the line was around the side of the building. A couple of guys walked up just before 8 and could not believe the turn out, asked how early did the front of the line start, answer was a guy who was sleeping in the parking lot since 4:30 in the AM. Its sobering to think how intense the demand is for a non-essential item and to realize how desperate society will become if its food, water, or energy that becomes scarce...makes we want to prep like a mofo -OR- stand in line for 2 hours for a thousand rds of 22 instead of sleeping, or BOTH ! [panic]

I went to bass pro yesterday and they had plenty of .223 and .45 along with a bunch of hunting calibers, but all at crazy prices. Cheapest .223 was $.45/rd. Reloading stuff was nonexistent. No powder, no reasonably priced bullets. There were 4 little boxes of 100 SRPs and I bought all four. Last month when I went to the Lonetree cabelas, they had thousands of primers in the big boxes of 1000 and even had some powder on the shelves.

Bass Pro seems like a bigger Gander Mtn... Lots of clothes and camping stuff, and a huge gun counter, but no real substance.

In related news, my dad lives in Michigan and he bought 1000rds of brass cased .223 for $310 yesterday from their Gander Mtn. They had pallets of it and no limit. Also had lots of powders and other reloading supplies with no buying limits. Everything but .22.
