Hello Gentlemen,
After a great ride with three sons through nearly 15 years of year round athletics, I am now down to a single baseball and football season. As a result, I am now reconnecting with my love of shooting, hunting and other outdoors-related activities. And, so far, my sons are taking an interest in shooting as well; and we have one hunter's safety class down, two to go.
Since my hunting days as a kid, and my shooting days in the Army (1986-1993), a lot has changed. Most in particular, the range of equipment and its sophistication. Over the last year I have thoroughly enjoyed researching everything from the various AR platforms to holographic sights and from night vision to tactical radio headsets. This website, along with many others, have proven to be a great resource.
I recently acquired some Colt 6920 SOCOMs for myself and my sons. We are running simply with the Matech iron sights now. Kind of like teaching someone to read a map and use a compass before giving them a GPS, I want the boys to get really competent shooting with the iron sights out to the maximum effective range. At that point, I am inclined to pick up some Eotech XPS3-4 sights. We live in a rural area where most of our shooting is inside of 300 meters. So that is where my shooting journey is at the moment.
Thanks again to everyone on this website for the wealth of information. And, to the many veterans, thank you for your service.
