I have a RRA lower I bought with a 6 position collapsible stock that I'm converting to a Magpul PRI stock. I ordered a new tube, buffer, and spring for the conversion. The PRI stock came with a screw to secure the stock to the back of the tube.

Here's the odd thing, the hole in the back of the tube I ordered and received from PK is NOT threaded. Is this normal? I thought all A2 tubes were threaded for the mounting screw.

It's kind of annoying. I have everything to assemble and everything fits, but I can't complete the assembly because there are no threads in the hole.[Rant1]

You can all stand down on this one. I figure since there were NO responses on this (except to my PM to Hoser), you were all out there doing intensive research into this and haven't had a chance to respond. Sorry, what was that you said? You were all out looking for primers? Sigh, you are wasting gas...

BTW, I still have no idea if it's normal to NOT tap that hole in the back if the tube is bought as a stand-alone-part and not a piece of a kit.

What I do now know from my research is the standard screw is a 1/4x28, and the tap and die are not to be found in a regular tap and die kit at Lowes or Home Depot. I did find a speciality store in town called Fastenal that had ONE of these taps. $3. Cheaper than mailing it back for a different one.

Hole is tapped and assembly complete. Now if I only had WSRP's to load with..

a quailty T&D set has that size. but fastenal or CD fasteners in Ft Collins carries those items. Even Graingers, but you need an account there to purchase.

cheap way out, could have gone with a 1/4x24 thread pitch.

Sounds like you got a pistol tube. Those are the only ones I have ever seen not drilled. Either that or poor QC
