I don't know the ins and outs of how the internet functions, but, it seems to me this is what we all scream for daily - less gov't control.
As long as it is not handed over to the UN.
As long as it is not handed over to the UN.
Bingo.

We'd all just use the Deep Internet then.

I do... (I'm a network engineer)
This isn't about transport of data, it's about domain names... Remember when this site used to be reached as co-ar15.com?
ICANN has not done a good job..
But I agree, the UN would not be a good replacement...
Could lead to systems of "rogue" DNS servers to circumvent an internet authority (not that I would see that as a bad thing if the UN was in control of mainstream DNS)

I'm totally against red DNS servers. Stinkin' commies.

The interwebz is one of our places we can exercise our 1st Amendment rights freely. Not sure how I feel about foreign control of it.

I don't read it as going to foreign control... but maybe corporate control? bryjcom may have it right... a company taking it over needs some model to pay for the workload.

Me either. I didn't even see the UN mentioned. Either way, I have bigger things to worry about.

I didn't see it mentioned either but it has been discussed before.
