Yeah, the time is passing by way too quickly for this old fart. Exactly fifty six (56) years ago TODAY, I received my honorable discharge from the U.S. Army after two cool years in the frigid North - Fairbanks.. So, NO, I am not just another damn poser. You guys will also see that the older we get, the faster time seems to pass. So, enjoy your youth just as long as the ole body will allow it.[blaster]

Fort Wainwright was known as Ladd AFB when I was stationed there (1956 - 58) . Fairbanks used to be a really ROUGH town on weekends with all the bar fights/stabbings etc, but not many joints were declared off-limits. During the Winters, the AP/MP's would not allow us to leave the base unless we wore parkas, Mickey Mouse boots and our arctic mittens. Didn't get dressed appropriately, you didn't get out. Also, during duty hours, no fatigues were to be worn in town. [blaster]

I agree that times flies as you get older; but I don't think 56 is "old" either. [Beer]

HA HA HA......Three years service and got out as a PFC. I had a VERY good duty job but rank was frozen on my particular position but it worked just fine for me. Oh, my hours were just fair though, 7AM to 10:30PM, seven days a week with a couple nights off per month. Still had no complaints. [blaster]

Only 21 more years and you'll hit my current age. Old age is NOT for weak folks, many of you guys will find that out for yourselves.

Scratchy, was your dad an NCO or an O? I always seemed to envy the USAF guys because they could really dress in a really slouchy conditions compared to the Army guys (or so it always seemed).

I really do appreciate all the "Thank you's" for my time in service. Actually, I enlisted in 1955 for a three year hitch with the written promise of being able to attend the military school of MY choice. With my love/fascination for firearms, of course I chose the Small Arms Repair School at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. Still REALLY like guns of all types with the M1 Garand remaining my favorite of all of them......
Thanks again for all the attention given this old fart. [blaster]

At the time, he would have been E3 or E4. I'm sure he'd dress in exactly the manner you're speaking of.
