My kids babysitters neighbor had their Yorkie ripped to shreds in their backyard off of Quincy and E-470 this past weekend. They called Animal Control and they were no help. This coyote seems to be getting more and more aggressive and they they have more pets and children that play in the backyard. The yard is fenced 4' high and the coyote somehow jumped over it. Any suggestions for this situation? Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That sucks.. my only advice is to get taller privacy fence and install dog roller along the top.

That and dont leave pets out during predatory hunting hours

4' is actually an easy hop for most large dogs

Coyotes can get over a lot of fences. 4' fence is no problem. I've seen deer jump over my 6 foot privacy fence with no problem. I think we had another thread about a coyote problem somewhere. From what I remember, legally, you can't shoot it since it's within city limits. Wolf urine around the property line can keep them away but the coyote may get wise to it if he never see's a wolf.

Compound bow, problem solved. No firearm discharged within city limits.

I keep a small pistol crossbow for this since I live in city limits. I also have a 6' privacy fence, more to keep my escape artist dogs in, but it can keep coyotes out.

Livestock electric fence. String two wires about 8 inches above fence, one to pos, one to neg. Dogs learn fast that the zap hurts and don't go back. Coyotes should react similarly and likely wont see the lines in the dark until it gets into them. It is how I taught my dogs to quit climbing over the privacy fence and also to stay out of the garden.

If in city limits, bows and crossbows are often lumped into the firearm category for discharge in city limits. If that matters to you.

Yeah but then you might have a yote running around with an arrow in it and that's gonna draw attention.

My sitter talked about a compound bow, but I told her to hold off on that idea since I didn't research Laws concerning letting one fly in city limits in Aurora.

yip, and wolf piss don't mean squat to a coyote that has never encountered a wolf in its life. Electric fence or higher fence seems the most logical to me.

But it would probably attract coyotes and skunks and other varmints ...

Keep pets inside, leave some "special" food outside in the yard...

If I have the shovel, why do I need a bat? [Coffee]

Hang a "Gun Free Zone" sign on the outside of the fence. I am told it is the proper way to handle personal safety concerns.

This. Except the image of the gun can now be menacing enough to emotionally damage someone so you have to be careful.

I saw a pic once of a coyote with it's head stuck in a pvc pipe. He was dead. The story I got was he chased a rabbit into the pipe and had a hold of it. Well getting out was the problem.

Maybe bait the inside of some 2'x6". Cap one end and lay them in the yard. Let nature take it's course or finish off the trapped animal.

Tell them to get a real dog.

Tosa Inu. That thing would tear a coyote to shreds.

I would just be shooting it if I was the owners, self defense and my kid was outside....yada yada. That is if you even see it again.

Had a customer lose one of there dogs to a yote in Greenwood Village. Police came out for a week, walking the canal, and shot 12. Told him he could shoot them as long as the bullet didn't leave the property.

Cannot trap Coyotes in Colorado ...why? who the hell knows, but I am sure it is because some hippy didn't like the poor "doggie" getting hurt

you must have a small game/fur bearing license and have it registered with the HIP office to legally hunt a coyote in colorado http://cpw.state.co.us/Documents/RulesRegs/Brochure/smallgame.pdf

caught in the act self defense of course is another matter, if you are going to go hunt this thing a license is required.

A German Shepherd will solve the problem as well as protect the kids from just about anything. Mine watched over the kids on my property and we have a lot worse things then Coyotes. My sister shoots them all the time on the ranch.

Great shit, but will also kill dogs, cats and anything else that consumes it. Not a problem if you are out in the boonies, but could be a problem if a neighborhood pet eats it.

I have been shooting bottle rockets at the yotes that have been lurking around our neighborhood. Fun and seems to have helped a bit.

They look fairly hearty, for having been shot by a family member.

Yup, get a dog that doesn't bounce when it barks. Aside from that put up a taller fence.

"City" coyotes are much brave that "rural" coyotes- not much scares them.

Go out with the dog and watch them- early am & pm is when them lil' fuckers like to show up.

Whoever said get a cross bow gets my vote for city 'yotes= they WILL be back...
