Hi Everyone,
I am looking to purchase a Class C Motorhome for camping with my family and have approx. $7000.00 to spend. I understand I wont get anything newer than 1991 but when I am looking at these motorhomes, what should I keep an eye out for? Any and all suggestions would be great!

Thanks,
Adam

We bought an 89 a few years back. The generator shot craps on our first outing. Electrical and lighting are a constant fight on the coach due to grounding issues related to vibration and corrosion. Change the transmission filter as soon as you get it, and every 20K thereafter. An aftermarket trans cooler will double(or more) transmission life. Plan on replacing all the belts and hoses if they haven't been done in the last 3 years. Reseal the roof on the coach. Plumbing may be a fight if it was plumbed with polybutylene.

I've replaced the rooftop air, the truck AC compressor, all 7 tires, serpentine belt(on the side of the highway). It seems like it's been pretty reliable the last 2 seasons, other than real minor stuff

Documentation. If the seller says they did X, they better have receipts. Changes fluids yourself, auto part store receipts. Dealer did it, same thing. You're friend did it, i don't care if they are the head tech for Dale Jr. No receipts, it wasn't performed.
Any camper or vehicle i've ever sold had documentation, be it a bulb (you beemer owners know who you are) to reman engine, paperwork.

A good score is when they say it was their [parents, grand parents, relative] who either passed on or no longer using . When asked for any repair work, they produce 2-3" stack of paper with the Original Bill of Sale and sticker.

Which is a bigger money pit, a motorhome or a boat? [Coffee]

I'd say a boat, but just marginally. For a real special time, tow your boat WITH your motorhome.

They say the 2 best days of a boat owner's life are the day he buys it, and the day he sells it. I'm realizing that motorhomes are eerily similar.

That's my neighbor. Turns me off on a motorhome.

That pales compared to the quad cab diesel, pulling the 3 axle 5th wheel , with their boat OR trailer, with 4 quads on it.

I prefer the diesel dually pulling a triple axle toy hauler with 2 decked out rzrs inside and a boat or wave runners on a trailer behind the 5th wheel!

If I did it again id buy a travel trailer first. Then a gooseneck. Then a fifth wheel. Then I might consider a motor home if all the other options are out.
