I want to cut up an old vest to use as plate backers

I know I need special scissors.....Will I have to have a seam sewn around where I cut?

No need to sew the cut pieces?

Hey i answered 1 of 2 questions, stop being a hater. Kevlar might be able to be finished / loose fibers, with something hot, like a sealer or iron.

The Kevlar I have dealt with (old flack vest) I used as cloth with epoxy resin. You could sew the ends to keep it from bunching. Only thing I have.

I've cut up an old vest before.....I sewed both on both sides of where I was going to cut, leaving like a half inch area between both the seams (this takes some time too, I did it by hand and had to work the needle in between the various layers of aramid). Then I took some utility shears and cut it in between the seams, and it took for ever. Looking back, I think a sharp razor knife and a wood block underneath might have been easier for cutting it. You could probably use an industrial/leather type sewing machine to sew the seams on it too idk.
