View Full Version : Anybody using a magnifier in front of a 1-4 scope?

I have this Bushnell AR 1-4 on my 20" dpms.
I am quite happy with it, but sometimes I would like to have more magnification.
Then again most of the time it does its job just fine, and I'd rather avoid the extra wight and bulk of a bigger scope.
Has anybody used a magnifier in this scenario?
I believe that a quick connect one would be the ticket...
How about image distortion?
Any reccomendation for a decent (as in not expensive) one?

You will either have to move the scope or extend the stock every time because of the extra length of adding the magnifier .

The non adjustable parralax on the scope will be compounded by the parralax on the magnifier and will make the groups and accuracy suffer .

The need for a high optical quality magnifier , to minimize parralax issues , will make it more than likely more expensive than the scope all ready mounted .

A good cheek weld will be nearly impossible without moving the scope each time , this will most likely mean rezeroing every time .

Sell whats on there and get bigger glass .

I agree 100% with C Ward. Adding a magnifier is all kinds of bad news. Another option if you want 1x is to get something like a 3-9x or whatever and mount a micro red dot on top of it. There are a lot of ways to get that done these days.
