I haven't been in the ar world for 2 years yet but I bought this pre panic on the shelves with no CO background tax.

Is that w/ FCG?
With a little more you could have had a full AR-15 if you go even further back in time.

Or maybe a bunch of M1 Cabines

or even a bunch of ammo

I remember my first SKS set me back $59. I mostly bought it because ammo was really cheap. I think a thousand round case of the old steel core stuff was about $100. It was such a cheap, fun rifle to shoot it made me buy an AK. I think I paid about $189 for it brand new in the box. Maybe less. Of course I also remember buying leaded gas at the pump for under sixty cents a gallon.
Those Chainsaw Noveskes now go for around 300 bucks…
Heck with regard to the other items. I never thought I'd see ARs for under 600 bucks again after the last "panic".. Great to see they are once again available. Although I don't see anymore of those 300 buck WASR AKs...

These were prices even when Clinton was in office!
I don't ever remember seeing a complete AR for under $500... $500 and over, yes
Vendors at every gunshow
SKS $50
AK's $150- Mags $2
M1 Carbines $99
Mosin Nagant $25
M1 Garand $150
Sten Guns $50
Europen Mausers $50
Met a guy today that bought a couple m16s for $1200 each back in the day and had 20+ HK autosears from his business and when he moved states he had to sell them to avoid all the taxes so he sold them to a buddy for $600 a piece.

LOL
I bought my first AK at "The Gun Room" when it was right across the street from "Wedgles Music and Pawn" on Broadway.
Norinco Type 56 with the spike bayonet and 3 30 round mags, sling new in box for $180.00 out the door.
My buddies thought I was nuts when I snagged 4 PolyTech Legends for $379.00 each. They really thought I lost it when I dropped $799.00 for a HK 91...

I remember Marlin .22 auto loaders for $60 w/ scope. My first SKS was $69 + tax and a 750 round tin of copper washed steel core was $34 (I still have one tin left for "emergency" use. I paid $185 for my M1 and my 686 was $330. I bought my wife a Ruger MKII Target with 500 rounds, a soft cash and Deluxe wood cased cleaning kit for $155 OTD. My Super Blackhawk was $232 OTD 37 years ago and I paid $750 for a brand new 1973 CR250M Elsinore, $375 for a new 1973 Yamaha 175cc CT3 Enduro.
Now I feel old. I'm going to bed now. Good night all and may God Bless.

Yep. First AK was an FEG brand new with 5 mags and a Kobra red dot. $175 out the door.
Of course we used to build Fal's all day long for $300 and Cetme's were $299 at AIM.
$59 SKS's
$120 Makarov's
$80 CZ 52's
And on and on. Oh, 1000 rds of .223 was $100 for brass cased and .308 surplus was $129 per K, pick your flavor. [Flower]
Remember back in 2014 when you could readily buy all that fun gun stuff? -never discount the possibility that we are currently living in the 'good old days' relative to what things might be like down the road.

There is so much truth in this post that it's scary. When I first got into the ar realm a couple years ago I could get 1000 rounds of 5.56 for $310 shipped. Man I shoulda bought more. In 5 years am I gonna say, back in '14 I could get 1000/556 for $350 shipped....
M-44's and 91/30's for $89
Sks's for $150
Ak's for $280
My first G19 was on sale for $299.99 when I bought it. Ahh memories of they way things were....

A box of .22 shorts for .25 cents, Long Rifle .30 cents. Gas was .20 cents a gallon and the service station attendant would not only fuel up the car but would check the pressure in all four tires, wash the windshield and dry it off with a chamois. That was back a ways though.

So how is Captain W. these days? Haven't talked to him in many months!
It's a small company...

Lucky Strike cigs .30 in the machine and .03 in the wrapper because they were actually .27 a pack.
Riding my bike to the gas station to get 2 packs of smokes for my Dad (about 2 miles). Either got change for the dollar he sent with me, or had to endure the ribbing from Del (gas station owner), because I was sent without any money (always went home with smokes though). Bought more cigs before I was 8 or 10 than some casual smokers. have in their lifetime.
Can't even let your kids ride down to the end of the block anymore, without supervision.
BTW My Dad quit smoking quite some time ago, and is still a work horse, in his mid 70's. It only took him retiring 3 times, before it finally stuck.
ETA: At least where I grew up, you were also guaranteed to be able to find at least 1 box of .22 rimfire rattling around in the glove box and/or ashtray. But back then, most people used their ashtray for ashes, so it was usually between 30-150 rds in the glove box.

People will be reminiscing until guns and ammo are banned. Buy now people, firearms related items will not become less restricted.

I wasn't earning as much back then but I sure wish I'd bought fewer VHS tapes and put the money toward buying a gun or two back then.

I remember all of that. One night my dad came home from work and remarked angrily to my mom that the Mobile station had just raised the price of premium to $.33/9 per gallon.

Yep, once upon a time we learned to use "are" for plural and "is" for singular subjects. It seems grammar is just one of the things not taught to youngsters these days ... [Coffee]

I own a sporter exactly like the one in the first pic. I paid a little more than that list price for it, but I believe it's worth a whole lot more than what I paid for it.

Honestly, I think most things are cheaper now than they have ever been. Food prices are up 19% just since Jan 1, 2014... Are gun or ammo prices up 19%? Compare gun and ammo prices to any standard measure of inflation and I think we're actually doing pretty well. Sure, you were able to buy a mosin Nagant for $25 back in the day, but those 25 dollars were worth a lot more back then. Back when you could buy gas for $.75 a gallon, etc.
