Here's the story... My wife was at the dog park, and she met this tiny little dog named "Lucas". Lucas is currently a shelter dog, and the caretaker took him to the dog park to try to find him a new home (sneaky bastard). My wife can't quit fretting over him, and is determined to find him a home. We're already at legal capacity per city ordinance, or I'm sure he'd be ours already. My wife has been visiting him and taking him for walks.

He's a neat little guy who's had a rough go of it. When he was found, he had a broken rib and some facial injuries. He's kinda skittish, but really sweet and likes to be held. The shelter says he shouldn't go to a home with kids.

He's at Planet Pet in north Denver. Here's a link to his profile on Petfinder:
http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/28792423

He is neutered, microchipped, has all shots, etc. I WILL PAY ALL ADOPTION FEES

If you, or anyone you know can give Lucas a home, shoot me a PM, or just go meet him. Again, I'll cover all adoption costs.

Man I'm torn on this. I've been looking for a dog and it's even my birthday. Biggest concern is the bald eagle and family of hawks we have air patrolling each day here. My wife spoke to a woman who was walking near here and the eagle kept trying to grab her little dog while it was ON the leash!

We we lost our next to youngest son two yrs ago and I fear something like the above happening would finish my wife off. Got to think about this some more. In the mean time, someone help this dog out.

Fantastic that you and your wife are doing this. He's a cute dog that I would take in a heart beat but I got 2 chihuahuas that my wife "saved" from a rescue several years ago and I can't take another dog. Good luck and please let us know via this post where he finally ends up.

Cheers

This little guy would be an easy snack for an eagle. No point doing anything that might jeopardize your wife's well-being. But thanks for considering, and happy birthday!

...they're not always straight up like a donkey's!

Update: LUCAS STILL NEEDS A HOME.

Lucas spent the afternoon at our house yesterday, and did great. He got along fine with our Rottie and Pit, but really liked the cat! Lucas and Coco (the cat) spent most of the time chasing each other around and trying to ambush each other. He learned how to use the dog door on his first try. I have no idea why the shelter says "no children". I don't think he could hurt anything, even if he tried.

Lucas really likes men, likes to be held and carried, but is just as happy zipping around on the ground. He's really a cool little guy. We're not in a position to adopt or even foster him right now, but he's going to have daily (almost) outings to go for walks or come hang out at our house. If you'd like to meet him, we will bring him to you! And again, we'll cover all adoption fees.

We can find out how he is with kids real easy. Give him the Hunter test. If he can handle my boy he can handle any kids

Well, crap.

Today while I was at work, I got a call from my wife. She had taken Lucas out from the shelter for his daily outing, and when she took him back, he freaked out and kept running away from the shelter staff and hiding behind my wife. I get a call from her, and I can tell she's crying. She can't leave him there.

Long story short, we're "fostering" him now. I just got home from work, and he came out to see who it was, and got super excited when he saw me. Now and he's crashed out on my chest.

I'm screwed.

You may be screwed...but Lucas wins the doggie lottery! If "fostering" means the same thing to you as it means to me, Lucas is home. I don't even go through the ridiculous exercise of telling the shelter people I'll foster a dog any more. It's too embarrassing to have them laugh that long at me.

That's awesome. He looks fairly comfy and content in that picture. [Coffee]

Guess it's a good thing your wife doesn't work at the homeless shelter. [Tooth]

There is a reason I do not foster dogs.

I have no idea why the shelter says "no children".

They probably mean small/young children. The breed is listed somewhere i read as "not good for houses with children", for the dog's safety. many children do not know how fragile a small breed like this could be, and there are lots of injuries to a dog via ruffhouseing or a kid falling on them, etc.

I have 4 offspring, and none of them would help me take care of him. Im already cleanin up after them and take care of them so... :-(

I hadn't though of that, but it makes a lot of sense. I bet you're right.
I think this guy still has a lot of puppy in him. Lots of energy, still does goofy stuff like chasing his tail.

Still looking for the right home for him. He puts us over the allowable limit per city orinance, so we're still looking...
