Took out my brand new DPMS just purchased from Walmart a few weeks ago. Before shooting it, I cleaned and properly lubricated it. I did replace the hand guard with a new tactical hand guard. Took it out to Pawnee National Grasslands today and it shot the first round fine. But it failed to eject the spent casing. It did not try to chamber the next round either. After getting home I noticed that the hand guard could have been pushed down another 1/4". So I loosened the hand guard and moved it down the 1/4" and re-tightened it. Therefore the gas tube was able to move down that 1/4" as well. Does it make sense that maybe the gas tube was not in the proper location for the gun to function properly? I fired 60 rounds through the gun, but I had to pull the handle back manually every time to eject the spent casing and insert the next round from the magazine. Sorry for the dumb question, I am still learning. Thank you.

To quote a member here "Sausages have Casings, Firearms have spent Cases...... "

The gas tube should not move, it is pinned (or should be) to the gas block / front sight tower which ever the case may be, with a roll pin.
You are probably losing gas pressure at the front of the tube.

Ammo, hand guard free floating or replaced stock ones. Front gas block clamp / pinch or set screw from bottom ? having more info shrinks the trouble shooting.

Why don't you condense the FTE to one thread?

I meant that I loosened the front sight that the gas tube is fixed in and moved that down the 1/4" after adjusting the hand guard. You are correct the gas tube does not move freely otherwise.

As GK mentioned in your moved thread, a better discription and more information is needed, and perhaps a picture too.

Just a guess, you had a misaligned gas port in the barrel to the port in the gas block if you were able to move it down a 1/4 inch.

The front sight or gas block or whatever you have (sorry, hard to tell from you post) only goes in one place and alignment is critical.

Maybe be try to post up a picture or two so someone can help you diagnose it.

You should never jack around with a new firearm until you are sure that it is functioning properly, you probably voided any warranty by removing the gas block and changing Handguards before even firing it.

This should help you understand how criticle the alignment of gas port in the barrel and gas block are.........

You stated a1/4 in.of movement, the gas ports are anywhere from .081 - .096 in. DIA. And a 1/4 in. Equals .250 in.( up to 3X port size ) You very well could have misaligned the ports.

is it a rifle length gas system? are you shooting .223 or 5.56. the misalignment is more likely, but i once had a rifle length bushy that would not cycle .223

Thank you for everyones help! It was an alignment issue with the front gas block over the gas port on the barrel. Like I said I am a newbie, I am definitely learning. I appreciate the input.

That video did help to understand how this gun functions internally. I appreciate the information!
