Watching Walking Dead tonight and now that it is over I need a new show to watch but I hate most everything on TV lately so I want to create my own and AMC is the only one out there that seems to be able to do anything right with Breaking Bad and Walking Dead...

Gotta base it more on the 80s film, not the new age, don't offend anyone BS that they created recently. Modern day would be fine though. An EMP would bring it back to the 80s for the most part.

Would have to base it in Colorado: Montrose? Maybe Pueblo, Fort Collins even? FOCO would be pretty good with the good guys retreating back to Estes/RMNP area? Might even bring in some tourist dollars... I know I have always wanted to visit Las Vegas, New Mexico. I feel like I know my way around town there already.

Bad guys would be the Russians and Chinese with help from Venezuela or some other South American country that is forced to pick a side.

Show would follow a group of Highschoolers/early 20 somethings that are caught behind enemy lines and use guerrilla warfare just as our favorite insurgents did back in the day. Obviously the first season would have to be about the initial invasion and follow the lives of the kids as they adapt to their new surroundings, no love stories, its a war series! Subsequent seasons will bring more information about WWIII and the fighting will ramp up as the kids get more savvy with their fighting. Maybe bring in some Special Ops folks in from time to time to help the kids that the people on the outside are hearing about? Just as on the Walking Dead, kill off main characters, bring in new ones. End the series after 5-6 seasons where we finally win the war but most of the original cast does not make it through. Make some good drama out of it.

How do I push this? Do I just need to go to LA and sit in a Starbucks with a sign that says "I have script"?

I'm on board. I can even make up your sign real nice.

How are you going to get 5-6 seasons out of the same thing over and over again? Well, a lot of shows do that. So how will you make it GOOD?

Tons of survival stories at first where they escape the initial invasion and escape into the mountains and learn to live in this new environment. Later when they start fighting back, you just add tons of possibilities to the main story.

How large of an audience do you expect to have with that as your main topic? Get great writers and I'd watch it. With great writers you won't have to rehash the same story for a third time though.

I'm not sure (or care) what the ratings are for "From Dusk Till Dawn - The Series", but it kicks ass imho. I like this idea. Bring it.

Are there any contemporary actresses with the same ability to convey simultaneous innocence and hawtness as Lea Thompson? She and Powers Boothe were really the only positives from the original movie (other than the original premise) IMO. I'm not sure we have anything Russia would want at this stage.

Now, lose the "Red Dawn" title (so you don't have to pay licensing fees or stir up the typical Hollywood anti-right crowd) and make the season 1 build-up sound like a fascist-takeover of the American power structure with the freedom fighters retreating to foothills and valleys ... then at the start of season 2 you spring the trap that the "right wing" takeover was really a false-flag operation by Huey Long-style Marxists (you could call the episode "Blue is Red, Red is Blue"). Call it "American Nightmare" or some such.

It would have to be on HBO though. Then you can show boobies and swear to make it more realistic, because there will be lots of both of those in war.

I'd watch it.

Start it out as a "One Second After" story. That could give a season or 2 to develop a group of survivors.

Then you could roll it into they find out the emp was from the Russians or whoever and are charging across the country. Then roll it into a "Red Dawn".

Yeah, I like the idea of a One Second After or Lights Out series, on HBO, better.

Yeah Lights Out also. Got enough from that book for a good 5 seasons.

Maybe not as big as you might think. One of the reasons the new Red Dawn movie took a while to come out is that the rights (even though they were agreed upon) were tied up in litigation when the studio filed for bankruptcy to restructure. Once they finally got it all worked out (took a few years) they released the movie. In fact that Hemsworth boy was a nobody when they filmed the movie and due to the delay Thor actually came out first even though they filmed Red Dawn years before. So right now the actual rights aren't owned by the same studio they were years ago so it's a little more relevant by the current owners. Ultimately, one would be better off stealing the idea and naming it something else. That's what Hollywood has been doing for decades anyway. No sense paying for the name Red Dawn when it doesn't hold as much weight as it once did and the idea is pretty broad and you could make much needed improvements where they're needed w/o needing to adhere to anything like you would need to if you named it Red Dawn.

Yeah, the people who own the rights to "Red Dawn" don't own the rights to World War III movies. Same thing as a zombie movie.... There are tons of those out and finally someone turned it into a TV series and scored big. Same idea behind the "Red Dawn" series. Hell call it "Red" or "Invasion" or "Tomorrow" or something like that.

I guess what everyone is after is a cross between Red dawn, The Postman and Omega Man.
