Hopefully everyone read the rules changes. If you don't have a big game license for the 2013 season or a annual fishing/small game/combo license you will be charged $30-$40 per application to get a preference point.

if this is your first year applying or you didn't buy any licenses last year, TODAY is the last day to purchase an annual fishing license to save yourself the fees.

just a friendly reminder as I find this practice to be bullshit.

So as long as we had a fishing license last year the additional fees aren't added?

Walking around in the woods with a gun during during hunting season in Colorado is for the rich. I already voted myself off the island shortly after I learned Colorado was a pay-heavily-to-play hunting state. Between the "lottery" to hunt, preference points, licensing fees, DOW restrictions, costs to process meat, overcrowded woods from out-of-staters, and DOW wardens hunting you while you try to hunt, it's a joke. For those big game hunters that remain... I left a couple in the woods for you, have at 'em.

As long as it was an ANNUAL license. Day licenses or weeks or whatever else they sell doesn't count. Has to be the annual one for all year.

or annual small game. Or annual combo license. Or a big game license.

then you would avoid the $30-40 fee per species you get a preference point for.

the $3 application fee still applies to each license though.

If you do not hold a 2013 annual or big game license, or do not receive a license through the draw, you will be charged $40 PER SPECIES (for elk, deer, pronghorn, or bear) for which you get a preference point"

Note the part between the commas. Fail the draw and get a refund & preference point they will keep $40 per species no matter what you had last year.

They fee isn't about Dow making money, it's about charging the guys who just put in for points every year and never buy a license. The idea was to try and help the in state guys who if are true sportsman usually buy sometime of license every year. If you buy ANY license the previous year (big game, fishing or small game) you will not be charged the fee. Everyone wants to bitch about the money, but they are the first to bitch when there is no access to ground, no road maintenance, no fish in the lakes, or all the winter kill because Dow didn't have the funds to air drop feed to the herds. If you want to bitch, call your politicians. They are the ones who combine the Dow with parks and rec. those dam bicycles get to use the ground and trails and search and rescue on our dime. Our hunting dollars fund these and they use them for free.

Lars, your avatar is very fitting. This is about cash, little more. Who care if someone puts in for a PP only, they are not pulling any money out of the system to do so.

Your right. They aren't pulling any money out of the system. They aren't putting any money in either. You've heard the saying "you have o spend money to make money" well the reverse is true as well. "You have to make money to spend money"

Are you saying that they now don't even need a hunt/fishing license to be covered?

They still get charged $3 per species for a fee. Not much but when I out in for every species and my wife puts in for every species, and you have to buy a habitat stamp, that starts to add up. Now people have to spend at least another $20 each year just to avoid getting charged $140 in fees as residents. So they tripled the price of the habitat stamp essentially. And now they get false numbers saying what a massive increase in small game or fishing or combo licenses they sold. Oh wait all those people will require more rangers. Those cost more money....and the cycle continues,
