Removing a flash hider with rockset?

I have a YHM flash hider/suppressor QD that has been attached with rockset. That thing is on there! I need to remove it and can not muscle it off. What is a much smarter, more effective technique? TIA!

Rocksett isn't affected by heat, that is the whole reason people use it over locktite on parts that heat up.

In general, it isn't very strong. Most times some torque will get it off. If not, rocksett is water weakened. Put it in boiling water for 15 minutes, then quickly remove the hider. As it dries the rocksett will harden again and you will have to start over.

If it was put on with locktite, heat will take care of it.

I've had the opposite from J. I use a heat gun to ease removal. I also use a bbl vise vs an AR receiver unit. Some times tight and be a horror show when, or if you spin the bbl extension.

If it works it works.... But I can't logically understand why. Rocksett has a published temperature resistance range from -350F to 2,015F Surely a heat gun isn't getting anywhere near that.

I can confirm that it is water soluble, so water definitely works too. Hot water works faster and better than cold, not because it heats up the barrel, but because it increases the capacity of solute the liquid can retain in solution.

Cool, once you get it off, dry then clean all parts with a good gun cleaner, like Hoppes No 9 or CLP. The oil in the solvents will prevent any surface rust from forming due to the water soaking. Especially important on some steel parts that have no chrome lining, etc.

Rockset is heat resistant. Water will soften it up, but not as well as shock, which it does not take well. Mount the barrel in a barrel vice and a few raps on the wrench will powder the Rockset and make it fairly easy to remove.

Rocksett is hydrophilic and will absorb water.
