I built an upper with a Rainier Arms 18" match SPR barrel and a Rainier Arms NiB BCG. When I used Forster .223 go gauges, the go gauge would not chamber. I removed the extractor and the extractor pin before checking headspace. However, when I used a different bolt it headspaced fine.

I called Rainier Arms about it and they said I got my result because I used a .223 Remington go gauge rather than a .223 wylde go gauge.

If the barrel is supposed to be able to shoot .223 Remington shouldn't the .223 Remington go gauge have chambered then?

Am I wrong in my assumption or could the bolt be out of spec or the headspace need to be corrected?

do you have another barreled upper to test the possibly out of spec bolt on?

A pm to bert / bptactical should answer the question.

Bert said I should be fine and to watch for overpressure.
