So my father and I purchased a couple of Glock 20's. I haven't been able to find any plinking ammo locally but have found limited self defense loads. It's main purpose is going to be for a camping gun. What rounds are you guys using and why? Hard cast, hollow points, TMJ? What weight? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Picture of the said Glock 20 for fun!

I run buffalo bore 180 grain.

Double Tap & Buffalo Bore ammo is where its at.
I have used these as well & others in 180 grain

These are neutered versions of the 10mm but still worthy:
Federal Hydra-Skok
Hornady XTP
Winchester SXT
PMC Eldorado Starfire

In the neutered versions most are all below 1400ft/sec regarless of bullet weight. Meaning, lighter bullets are even more neutered.
For the most powerful over the counter loads, 180's or 200 grain would be the bullet of choice.

For target and plinking loads you can really zing a 135. ("The Lazer")

Underwood? Seems that comes up a lot under a google search. I found some buffalo bore at Sportsmans but wanted to do a search before buying.

Don't run hard cast, it will lead up quickly.
Stick with FMJ.

Nice gun! Are you reloading? 180gr plated bullets over titegroup powder makes them fun and cheap to plink, or you can make your hand throb with some different powders. I ran hard cast through my G20 quite a bit and never had leading but I don't reccomend it without an aftermarket barrel. Some people run 40 ammo which is also controversial, and you can download 10mm reloads so light their is no need to tear up an extractor. 10mm is pretty versatile.

Most 10mm ammo is pretty watered down, they don't want to cause any more tsunami's.

I am in the process of reloading 9mm, .223, and now 10mm.

I just ordered some of these:
10mm Auto 180 Grain XTP Jacketed Hollow Point Box of 50:

Ballistics Information:
Muzzle Velocity: 1300 fps
Muzzle Energy: 676 ft. lbs.

And the same in TMJ. People seem to love this company so I thought I would give them a shot. Seemed like 180gr was the best "all around" bullet. They didn't have any 165gr like I wanted but I least I will be able to try them out and shoot this bad boy!

Nice. I thought I was done aquiring 10mms. Now that I see one in a color I don't have.....Who has those in stock. This is a caliber that MUST be loaded at home. I love the XTPs. I'd get a quality aftermarket barrel too. And maybe a heavier spring and guide.

The original Norma loads were grossly overpressure. Now... somehow... anything that doesn't meet that level is "neutered", as if somehow Hornady, Federal, Remington and Speer all got together and conspired to "water it down" when in every single other cartridge it's a race to see who can get better performance. Ask yourself why the companies that actually pressure test loads (I can tell you Underwood doesn't) sell ammo at those "neutered" levels when hotter would clearly sell better. Can you get a 200 grain to go 1,200? Yes. Is there any reason to beat the snot out of your gun with a steady diet of them? Not in my opinion. Don't try to make it something it's not. If you want a .41 mag, get a .41 mag. The old John Linebaugh analogy of pulling a horse trailer with a V6 is right on the money here...

Anyway. I'd say try different loads and see what works best for you. I'll end the 10mm rant here. Good luck.

I found them at Liberty Arms in Fort Collins. I do not remember if they had just the two we purchased or if he said they had one more in the back. Give them a call and see what they can do for you.

Completely understandable. I plan on keeping my reloads around 900fps.

I could use some hot reloads of 10mm if anyone would like to give me some as a donation and a cash donation to your pocket!?!? Was looking for a heavy bullet at least 220gr

Nice purchase, congrats! :) I'm fairly new to the 10mm game myself.
I bought a Lone Wolf barrel for 220gr Buffalo Bore. I'm not 100% on the reliability of this barrel and I've heard KKM maybe gets better reviews.

As such, I like to run 180gr Underwood (stock barrel) for "woods" instead. I did buy some Underwood JHPs for "self defense" but I really don't use it for that.

also, be sure to check out Underwood 10mm loads--plenty fast and you can get a variety of bullets, too.

I ordered a 150 rounds from them a few weeks ago. Fast shipping! Still have yet to shoot it though.
