So I took the M&P Shield .40 out the other day first auto pistol I have owned beside AR pistols.

Fired some rounds to familiarize myself with the tool. I fired Federal Hydrashocks, Federal American Eagle FMJ, and some Hornady Critical Duty rounds. Sorting through the spent brass, I noticed that the primers had a keyhole mark left on them. Almost as though the firing pin was not retracting fully before the spent case was ejected.

A little worried that this will add some extra wear an tear on the firing pin, and I probably should have it looked at by S&W, but just wondering if anyone else had this issue with their Shields or any other handguns.

Figured this fits under the "Ask-a-Member and I need help with..." portion of the section.

I'll get pictures up when I get home, I was going to ask someone at work that has the same pistol I have but he hasn't fired his yet.

That's known as firing pin 'wipe'. I've also heard it described as primer wipe. Many pistols do it and it's not unusual.

Sent from my electronic leash.

I just thought of something. Did your new pistol come with a fired case? If it did, does the primer look comparable to what you're seeing?
