I was there... it was like having sex while camping... fucking intense.
It seems lately as if the Avs can't win unless they're down by two or more goals going into the third.
I was given tix yesterday afternoon. That was definitely an intense game with lots of ups and downs, ending on the up!
I was planning on watching that game, until the Blues/Blackhawks game went into triple overtime. Blues and Avs both come from behind to win it in overtime. I hope these two advance to the next round. While the Avs will probably never attain that rivalry status with the Blues like the Blackhawks (the Black & Blue rivalry is legendary), I would like to see the rivalry between the Avs and Blues grow. There is potential there.

Game 3 starts tonight at 5:00pm.
The Stastny-MacKinnon-Landeskog line has a total of 17 points in 2 games so far. It sounds like Minnesota is going to start Kuemper in goal tonight. I think this might be the game where the Wild's frustration boils over. It should be a good one. Go Avs!

I had an after work appointment, but at least it's still a 0-0 game when I'm getting in at the start of the 3rd.

Tyson Barrie is out for 4-6 weeks after Cooke kneed him. Cooke got a 2 min minor at the time, hopefully that goon douche gets suspended. It was pretty obvious that it was intentional. He should have to sit out until Barrie gets back. I'm all for good, hard hits, but when your intent is to hurt another player, you should have to sit as long as the other guy is out.

Yeah, there were plenty of cheap shots by the Wild tonight. The next game will be interesting.

This kinda crap is why I'm almost to the point where I don't watch any sports at all. Cooke should have received a match penalty for that obviously deliberate and illegal hit but nothing was done by the game officials. The Avalanche didn't retaliate immediately, we'll see what happens in game 5. I hope the AVs keep their heads and just win the next game and finish out the series here.
The same thing is happening in the Chicago/St Louis series except that Seabrook put a stop to it. St Louis lost their captain for while, Backus is a shithead anyway so some karma there. I say what happened to Backus is karma b/c I know his history with the Avalanche.
Matt Cooke...seeing this shitbag come up reminds me of the Bertuzzi incident.

I just dont get the fighting in hockey,
cheap shots sure, they do that kind of thing in a lot of sports, check a guy into the glass in retaliation for a hard shot on one of your other guys, i get it, football players do the same kind of things,
exactly when would you expect the wide out and the cover corner to throw down helmets and start punching away at each other?
turned me off of the game years ago.
Delfuego
04-22-2014, 16:42
One reason fighting is there is to prevent a shitbag like Matt Cooke from doing garbage like this. It used to be an honor system and help the players to self govern one another. 30 years ago a repeat offending douche-bag (like Cookie) would get handled and he would not continue to his shenanigans out of fear. That and nobody would want him on their team. Nowadays fighting is more about ratings and money and sometime to get the team going. Especially when you have another goon (Brendan Shanahan) as the "Disciplinarian" of the league.
Cheap-shots are much worse than fighting. They are classless and destroy good peoples careers.
I think the ridiculous shit that NFL guys beating on their chest and dancing around after and average play is far more shameful. NFL players are almost all Prima Donnas and know that they aren't gonna get an ass-kicking for actin' a fool. Please do not compare Football to Hockey either, its like comparing baseball and golf, they are different activities entirely.

Well said, Roberth.
It was very clear to me, that when the second period started, the Wild coachs had given the message to the players to head hunt. The ineffective first period strategy failed, and they resorted to plan B.
There were some interesting views on "the ride home" on KOA today, Krieger struck a few chords with me, Logan did as well. I wish I could expound about it as well as those guys did, but I can't. If the Av's had retaliated similarly, against Cooke who is not a skill player anyways, it would make no difference. They would have to go after a valued player of the Wild instead.
Hits happen, injuries happen...flagrant intent to injure an opponent is inexcusable. Cooke should fined severely and benched for however many games Barrie is unable to play, including into next season if that's the case. The Teams ownership and coaching staff should be fined heavily as well. Message type deal.
The league has tried to cut down on this type of thing for years, and as the Bertuzzi event was mentioned.... this isn't the same league that it used to be, and for good reason. They should be making stuff better for the players, and should really stomp on the collective Minnesota Wild dicks with overwhelming certainty.

this is exactly my point
actually you do have to compare the two in some light as they are violent games,
i just dont get it, if the cheap shots are such an issue then the refs and the league need to do a better job of discipline, cheap shot and you are thug you are out of the game and have a huge fine. and yes i am comparing this to the NFL at this point,
come over the middle and take a cheap shot on a defenseless receiver, you get fined, i realize these guys make a lot and the fines could be more, but if i take a cheap shot and it costs me $25,000 and my stats cause i had to sit out of the game i will probably not do that again.
and the nfl is getting to be safer by fines, better equipment and new rules, i dont see why the nhl couldn't do the same thing.
these kids get into hockey play really well in college and then get to the nhl to get beat up on,
the nfl would lose there minds if the players went at it in the middle of the field after a head shot to a quarterback, they let the league handle it. i think the NHL has just let this become part of the game. and they dont handle their players or their rules in a proper manner, their is no reason the players should have to have this mentality that they have to get into fist fights.
you dont see this in other levels of the sport, i am sure it has happened, but i dont remember olympic hockey, college hockey or little league hockey beinng the same way.
i am not certtain it is the players fault, i think the nhl has just let is be tolerated for so long that it has become part of the game.

I have no problem with the fighting. It's one of the things I like about hockey. Delfuego said it nicely. It's also a very physical sport, and I would suspect the fighting is also a way to blow off steam. 99% of the players respect each other. They may not particularly like each other, but there is respect. And it seems most fights are mutual. If they're not, the refs/linesmen do a good job of breaking them up. If the guys want to fight, they let them until it's over or they fall to the ice. They sit in the box for 5 minutes and the game continues.
The cheap shots and the intent to injure piss me off. Cooke has a hearing in NY today to decide his fate. I hope he gets hammered.
What I don't want to see is the game get pussified. There has to be a way to deter the Cooke's of the world without ruining the game. Sometimes the refs are going to make the wrong call on the ice. It's part of every sport. But for the most part I think they do a good job of judging the atmosphere of the game and letting the guys play without letting it get out of hand.

My brother and I were furious when the news came down that he'd be suspended for 7 games... Such bs! He's not like Todd Bertuzzi where it was a one time thing, Cooke is a habitual good who makes cheap shots whenever he can, and he gets suspended then back at it again. They need to make an example of him (or anyone who does this) just once, ban them from the NHL for life, then it might teach others a lesson that this crap won't be tolerated. I was calling for Bertuzzi's head after the Moore incident, mostly because it ended his career and what he did was about the lowest, dirtiest thing you can do in hockey. Strangely enough, Steve Moore fought Matt Cooke prior to Bertuzzi attacking him. I can respect the enforcers, the bruisers, and the fighters, but I cannot accept the goons who go out and cheap shot and play dirty. Cooke should be gone. I'd be very ashamed to be a Wild fan with dipshits like that on the team.

Pulling a goalie at +2 minutes is a huge gamble with an offensive team like the AV's
And how often its worked, twice in this series alone, had he not the fans be crying he lost the game for them by not doing it earlier. Can never win, loss sucked, but now the Wild have to come to Denver. Hoping for a better turn out, but they played a lot better in Minnesota tonight then they did in games 3-4.

Amazing series so far....Seriously, this should be for the cup.
Chicago is loving it to, getting a few more days to rest before they have to play again. Hope their legs don't get to fresh for round 2.

Ah. Name calling. Real mature. It sucks the Avs lost, but attacking me won't change things. Don't get so butt hurt.

Not to pour gas on the fire, but I can't watch 7 foot guys whine when another 7 foot guy touches their wrist. It's soccer on wood for me.
Tough loss for the Aves. It's go time now. At home. Oh yeah.
It is what it is. At least the Avs weren't at their own end all game. The game winner from the Wild was amazing. You just can't stop those.
Let's hope that home ice works again for the series win.
It's not a series until you lose at home. Game 7's are the best of the best in sports. Game 7's in hockey are that much better.

But saying that your done watching after the first goal is worse than fair weather. It says your not a fan of the game at all. Plus your photo makes you look like Rhonda Fields, and I hate that bitch...

No harm, no foul. I know how emotions can get with this game. As far as not being a fan, I've been a hockey fan for 20+ years and a Group Ticket holder with the Avs the first day the Nordiques came to Denver. We bought 10 seats per game plus the playoffs. Had to stop buying because the team wasn't winning like they were so people stopped reimbursing us for the tickets. Couldn't carry a $100-$200 loss a game.

So true... I present Exhibit A: The Avs Game 7 Stanley Cup victory against NJ in 2001. Not just because I'm a die hard Avs fan, but arguably one of the best game 7s in recent Stanley Cup history. Tanguay and Sakic, just amazing... and of course- Ray Bourque, a dream has come true! When Sakic gave Bourque the cup I got chills... We need that feeling again. I hope tomorrow night they crush the Wild. In the meantime, I'm going to go throw some 62gr 5.56 FMJ Ball rounds at my brother's Minnesota Wild shirt... no idea why he has one in the first place.

I had to turn down two tickets in a private box for tonight's game due to a prior commitment. They better win so I can go to a game in the next round.
Here comes another Avs WIN!!!!!

I'll be watching the game with my invisible friends and the radio.
Avs up 1-0 so far.
Rats, 1-1 now.
So, where was the penalty against the Avs?
Gonna be another last minute, nail biter me thinks....

It's sports. You're not on the team. Nothing in life will change win, lose, or spontaneous combustion.
Just chill...
Avs lead 4-3 late in 3rd. Clear that damn puck from your zone quickly and you'll win!
Nordiques moving to CO, and they already have 2 cups.
I still have.....

Yes, that's a great way to look at this. Many players are back next year. They gave it a good run, better than many expected. They'll be back...
I'm really proud of the growth of this young team. I'm also proud of the job Roy has been doing.
I'm already looking forward to next season!

That was crazy. But Go Kings Go :)
I enjoyed watching the Avalanche this year, a good year.
I can't believe the Kings came back to win 4 in a row, very rare.
I've weaned myself off all pro sports except the NHL, the NHL still captures my interest.
Better luck next year.

A very good year for a young team. A bit disappointing to end it now but oh well. I think the moves they made with Sakic and Roy have set a good foundation for a good team. An outstanding management/coach combination that younger players can believe in.
Yup, the rest of pro sports can bite a bag. You have a better class of athlete in the NHL.
Who do you think will make the run for the Cup?

Looking at Hawks and Bruins.
Not a bad run for such a young team in their first year under a new head coach. Only good things to come. Disappointed only in the fact I have to wait to watch them play some more until next season.

I agree. I won't be spending time watching any games though, weather is getting nicer and all that.
Wow... That was depressing last night, but not as depressing as the choke fest San Jose fans had to witness... [ROFL1]
What an amazing season, going from worst to first! I'm kinda hoping the Habs can pull it off and win the cup this year. They haven't won since 1993, and it would be kinda cool to see them do it this year. Plus I like Vanek and Briere.

I've never see a town like Denver that gets so far ahead of themselves over sports. The boobs on 104.3FM were wanting to close out the Wild in 5 or 6 games so they could rest up before taking on Chicago or St. Louis. Two seasons ago they were already planning the Super Bowl parade before playing Baltimore.

You've never seen that? Have you ever lived in NY? I've seen Giants fans pack up the bus for the Super Bowl half way through the season. Denver is hardly the only one to get ahead of themselves... And there's a difference between wanting something and wrongfully expecting it.

That is why I will never wear an opposing team's jersey in Boston... Not because I'm afraid, no, I don't know how many guys it will take to kick my ass, but I know how many they'll use.
Yes, Bahston fans are the worst in any sport... except for the NFL- Patriots fans are second only to Raiders fans.
