Just applied for a Airport Certification and Safety Inspector for the Alaska Region of the FAA. Im definitely qualified and Alaska is home to me. Frankly I am a little over the culture of Colorado, but if I get it I will miss the friends I have made here. This would be a huge step in my career and it would allow me to buy the PA18 super cub I have always wanted.
Cheers!
Best of luck to you! I hope it all comes together for you!
Good luck and best wishes.
Good luck, I hope you get it.
Good luck, hope yours is better than mine at getting a new job.

Luck is for rabbits... I hope you get the job on your qualifications...
I'd hate to think my success has been all dependent on luck!
I'd love a chance to move to Alaska again, and to be one of those with a pilot's license? Pure awesome!

I would think the FAA in Alaska is four guys standing on the runway ...
#1: here's Ted coming in.
#3: that ain't Ted, it's Norman with the Charmin.
#4: you're both wrong, that's trigger in his Super Cub.
#2: I'M TRIGGER!!!!
(scene)
best of luck anyway.

Thanks everyone, I have a great job now, but this would be better and Alaska is home to me. I spent 26 years there already and I'm only 31, winters aren't so bad if you have toys to keep you busy. :)
This is exactly what I'm talking about, I prefer the J3 paint though and skis in the winter are a blast.
For all you airplane nerds (me included), my buddy had a experimental cub, 38" tundra tires and 220hp with borer prop, extended flaps and leading edge slats. Thing was nuts, almost like a helicopter.

One of the things on my bucket list" is to do some short field landings in a few creek beds; on the way to fishing or hunting in Alaska! Would love to get some property there; have been thinking of quite a bit lately. You only get one Moose tag here; think it's unlimited in Alaska no? Not that i really want to kill many moose, just saying.
Have you done, any brush flying in Alaska? Talked to a few dudes, that say it's pretty rough, and you def need to be on your game.

Ive taken a super cub to Montague Island from palmer with a buddy. Same day fly and hunt is allowed there. Shot 2 deer, through them in the belly pod and headed home. Played by knik glacier on the way home. It was Dec 20th so we were limited on light. Allegedly, spread my dads ashes out of the same cub over the Chagach range on skis. Its pretty majestic up there, mountains from sea level to 3000'+. A plane or boat really opens up the opportunity up there, where you can drive is very limited..

That sounds awesome! The only way to fly a super cub is with tundra tires, skis, or floats. I spent an entire summer flying around the Midwest with my dad (about 10 yrs ago) from one lake to the next, meeting up with other floatplanes and generally having a great time. My dad and I were planning on a trip to Alaska in that thing, but he changed vectors, sold it, and we built an RV-7A together instead. The RV is pretty neato (and fast!) but there are so many things you can do in a super cub that nobody else can do. Good luck and have fun!

He competed in the Valdez fly-in a couple times, short landing short take-off. There is a youtube somewhere...

My buddy that I flew with is in the Yellow Cub. They were coming home from a hunting trip and Lake Illiamna, biggest lake in AK, was glass. They decide to do some water skipping on tundra tires. Epic pic and they got some videos.

I "grew up" flying C-130s out of Elmo. Best flying I ever did. If I ever really wanted to go back to the flying world, AK bush pilot is the only thing I would do.
Went nose to nose with a few bush pilots back in the day.....I'm sure they crapped their pants after seeing a Herk at 300 feet peel off, only to see number 2, then 3, 4.... Then again, they were some harty souls!
We used to get into Valdez by shooting an approach into Tatitlik (awesome name) and dumping IFR, then VFR up the water through Potato Point and in through the Valdez arm. We were rotating some army dudes guarding oil and let an Army Captain sit up on the flight deck and watch out the windows. Instead of going back out over the water, we circled up and over to the glaciers then low leveled back to Anchorage. He was like, "crap, you guys do this for your day job? I chose poorly!" lol
sorry for the thread derail...just wanted to reminisce

Yeah, I'm afraid to say anything for fear my luck will rub off on you, but best of luck man. I'd be all over Alaska in a heartbeat.
