Alright hand loaders, .308 16" barrel GAP 10 with 155's powder recommendation

So I picked up a GAP 10 and want to run the 155's in hopes I can push them faster out of the 16" barrel. Anyone have any experience with this? Its Bartlein barreled 11.25 twist, will run both normal and suppressed. I have plenty of Varget and 175 smk's, but have been thinking about running 155's and a faster powder to try and get velocity and full burn on a 16" barrel and not sacrifice accuracy. Anyone got any ideas, or tried and true recipes for this? I'll lob them slower with the 175's if that turns out to be my best bet, not afraid of dialing a few mils if that is whats gonna work best, but just wanted a shorty .308.

Side note: anyone have a long action bottom metal for a remington? I need one for my hunting rig I putting together.

For a 16" .308 with 155s? I am guessing he missed the barrel length or forgot to put on the O2 mask.

I have had good accuracy and velocity with X-Terminator and AA2230...seems to be a sweet spot for 155s out of 16" barrels.

Actually was planning on the VLD's, Mark I haven't worked with either of those powders before but I'll give them a try (if I can find them). Ive ran Varget out of a 14.5" .308 in an AI Covert, but being a bolt gun I could push the pressure a little higher, trying to keep the pressure lower on this and velocity up.

what happens if you try IMR 4064?

That's been my go-to powder for 308 since I can't seem to find varget or benchmark locally (for a decent price).

Ah. Makes sense. I was going to be really interested of you could get the scenar into the AR10 mag length. It has been a bullet I've been wanting to try out, but man is it long.

I would not worry about max velocity in a gas gun. Varget or RL-15 traditionally give the best accuracy in a 308. And your gas port pressures will not be insane which is really hard on brass when the bolt tries to tear it out of the chamber.

If you were trying to get max velocity out of a bolt gun then you might be well served with a faster burning powder.

Just my 2 cents. You get what you pay for...

Thanks Hoser, I've got plenty of Varget on hand so I'm definitely gonna play with it for sure. Was gonna use my Lapua brass, then found some LC Match brass I had so probably run that instead. Picked up the GAP last friday, so gotta get her running!
