I've been in Denver for 6 years and have never been to a concert here. Next month is a friend's birthday and she invited me to go with her to some lame band playing at the Bluebird on East Colfax. I am not at all worried about problems at the concert, but walking back from the concert on a Saturday night near midnight could be a problem. Bluebird website says "no weapons of any kind" are allowed and that "all patrons may be searched." Anyone been there before? Do they actually frisk people and use the wands here? Would probably just be carrying a Denver legal knife well concealed, but I'd prefer not to have it confiscated and risk being kicked out. Thanks.

Some concerts pat you down, some don't. It's hit or miss at venues like that.

Honestly, East Colfax is mainly hipsters now. Definitely shady looking people from time to time but not like it used to be. I go out down there from time to time because I have a friend off 12th and York. We usually go to a bar called 3014 near the Blue Bird and its pretty tame.

S can HTF at anytime though.

Pocket pistol's a good idea IMO. Colfax is crawling with too many shitbags of every kind, I rarely venture there but when I do Lil' Roscoe goes too. Either the .38 S&W snubbie or the .32 Mauser, both have pocket holsters. They peek in the ol' lady's purse for booze bottles, and won't let me bring my camera in, but I've never been wanded or groped.

Last show we went to was at the Odgen, and it was miserable. We're too damn old, beat up, and pissy to stand all night packed asshole to elbow with a buncha fuckin' drunken idjits. We ended up leaving early, and it was a show I really wanted to see. Can't enjoy something if I'm miserable.

Hell, I was doing a photo shoot last weekend for a volunteer group, rubbing shoulders with Mayor Hancock, a City Councilman, and a buncha Denver cops. Had the Mauser in my pocket then too.

If it was a rap, punk, or metal concert I'd expect to be wanded, but this band is lame and so are their fans so I'm guessing it will be fine if I forget to take the knife out of my boot . . . and if they do find it, it's only a $100 loss as opposed to a $400 loss. East Colfax isn't very nice during the afternoon, and most of the hipsters and yuppies miss a LOT of what's going on around them and think it's safe. Right on Colfax is reasonably safe, but as soon as you walk down a side street towards 14th or 16th you can run into problems after dark. Only about 10% of the street rats are actually dangerous, but it's hard to tell the difference until they start running their mouths. Still, Denver is a lot safer than some of the cities I've lived in.

I've been padded down at the bluebird. Really depends. Larger venues always seem to pat down and wand. Smaller ones it is hit and miss

My wife and I often go to concerts along Colfax; The Bluebird, Ogden, Fillmore, etc.. I too was concerned about walking to and from the venue from my car.. But as was mentioned, it is mostly hipsters. Not so much the shady characters.

And as someone else stated it depends on the band and the person doing the "patting" down. When we see "Heavy Metal" bands, I get patted down pretty good. You'd have to stash a very small piece right in your groin area. My wife doesn't get as thorough pat down… I've seen some non-metal bands and they don't even search… all depends. I would say take it with you but be prepared to go back to your car...

BTW, if they are frisking, and you have a chain on your wallet like I do. Leave it. They won't let you bring that in. At the Ogden there is a metal pipe right near the entrance. I stuffed the chain in there and it was still there when we were done...

and if they do find it, it's only a $100 loss as opposed to a $400 loss.

Why would there be any loss? Pretty sure some random door guy can't "confiscate" your property.

I bought a martial art cane just for these purposes. I can carry it ANYWHERE.

I have carried at most of the venues in town using a homemade version of "thunderwear'. My first stop inside is the nearest bathroom stall where I transfer to pocket carry for the rest of the evening. I am not really concerned about something happening inside the event, but the walk back to the car at 12:00 can be pretty sketchy.

I have been to a few shows in the Colfax area as well. I have been patted down at some, and wanded at some, and not checked at all at some. It's really hit or miss like everyone else is saying. I was carrying to a couple of them, and had to go back to the car because I "forgot my phone". Just have your friend stay in line while you run to the car if you see that they are wanding people. I carry in a Smart Carry and have gotten in when pat-downs are being conducted.

I may or may not have carried knives in places even having been wanded. I may or may not have put it somewhere directly behind where something else metal might cause the wand to register - like a belt buckle or something.

Have your friend sray in line when you go back to the car, then just leave her there and go home since you don't want to go anyway.
