Is your experience the same as mine or different?

The owners that let dog(s) bark outside at everything for hours on end are liberals.

Not my situation but just adjusting my lib-o-meter. For those of you that live in BFE no-neighbors-for-2 miles-in-all-directions, disregard.

I think it has more to do with why the people have a dog on the first place. I live in what is potentially the most heavily dog-concentrated city on planet earth and while the vast majority are good custodians, there are a few here/there that got a dog for the same reason they had kids: it was the next thing on the obligatory checklist.

The worst offenders I've seen in the "leave dog out to bark all day" category are those for whom life was already quite full before they ever entertained the idea of getting a dog. They (and now I'm referring to actual neighbors) spend their weekends at their condo in Aspen, weekdays are at the office in Denver, and there is simply no time when they have occasion to take care of a dog (or any other pet for that matter).

When it comes to offenders in close proximity, they are the "up early because I have to be at work when the markets open in NY" crowd, I've never attached a political bent to them, they simply never had time for a dog but it was the 'in' thing to do so they got one...and 2.4 kids to go with it.

-granted, I have two dogs and when they tree a squirrel, they bark. That said, I'm a gun hating liberal who drives a green station wagon.

I agree with the whole "reason for a dog" thing. In my case, it was ghetto losers that had a dog because that's what ghetto losers do. Fortunately, bad dog owners don't usually ruin dogs and dog owners for everyone.

People that let their dogs bark all day are classified as assholes. Unfortunately asshole is a popular flavor on both sides of the aisle.

Yes, unfortunately, very true. People who let their dogs bark should be beaten with a cane, and their dogs should undergo a surgical barkolectomy.

Try living next to geese.

I'll take geese over an inconsiderate assholes barking dog anyday. Mainly because it pisses me off that the jerk off is home and isn't doing dick about it. There's a guy who lives across the open space from me with a god damn schnauzer that barks at the smallest mouse fart. I do not let my dogs bark unless it's something important but because of that guy, I'll let them bark their heads off when kids walk through the open space. Barking dogs are my biggest pet peeve and I cannot wait to get into the country. As hghclass said, "Welcome to the city". Rant over.

Problem is resolved when myself or the spouse, knock on the offending owners door at the same hour their dog[s] are barking. Usually the spouse does it she's more tactful than i am. Of course the, you can deal with me or the cops. If i were you, hope it's the cops, gets their attention fairly quick. . Even the FSA owners who have somehow migrated in to the local, get the hint.

Want to control a barking dog. Get a can of air, like the computer cleaner kind. The noise stops them barking and if they continue you so it again. For whatever reason it works. All I have to do now is imitate the sound and the yappy fucks next door shut up

when we lived in the city the neighbor that shared the fence line in the back of the house had a yappy little f..... of a dog, the first summer we were there i was outside painting the house, the dog sat inside his own house and barked at me through the upstairs window for seven hours straight

that little waste of skin was the worst ever.

we have barking dogs in the rural area also, my neighbors have a beagle that drives me crazy, but they have a for sale sign in the driveway now so it is about o come to an end.

I don't know where to begin. My good neighbor has an asshole neighbor adjacent to his property. His damn dogs bark nonstop and create chaos every time he lets them outside to include 5am and 9-12 at night. There is probably 7-8 acres of property between us and they still wake up my son. Although the barking is not nearly as bad his dogs harassing my neighbors animals and killing his ducks and chickens. I talked to him once, but he blames everybody else. The threatening emails this dick sends to my neighbor is pretty bad. I am documenting it this summer and having the Sheriff take care of it along with having the petition signed by other neighbors. To answer your question. He is the only dick up here with Democrat signs on his property during the elections.

Its not that hard to train dogs if time is put into it. My dogs are on the property all day and they don't bark. My GSD will only bark two or three times to warn an animal or person when they come on her territory. My Husky only barks (sort of a howl/bark) when she is playing). When a neighbor is totally inconsiderate of what their animals are doing, I get pretty pissed. I wish that my neighbor shot the dogs when they came on his property and killed his animals; it would have been justified. Instead, he put up a massive electrified fence to keep them out and still deals with the asshole neighbor and his barking mutts.

Best way to control/train rowdy cats too. All I had to do was look at the can and she would stop whatever and run away. Said cat is now gone and the one loner left here never was a problem.

Its not that hard to train dogs if time is put into it.

Coming from a non-dog owner perspective. I think it is a dog owner's DUTY to put in the time for their animal. If you do not have the time to train and provide the dog the quality of life it deserves then do not have one. I would love to have a dog, but I know my limits and I cannot provide the animal the time it deserves, so I don't get one.

Letting a dog outside to bark incessantly because you can't be bothered to train it properly is neglect. Not only is it neglect it opens the possibility of some unsavory characters in the neighborhood to take out their frustrations the illegal way, and that is unfair to the dog.
