I am in NYC for training this week. Due to a mix up with the company doing the training, my hotel and the training center are about 4 miles away from each other. So the passt couple days I have walked to and from the training. The thing that strikes me, as confident as some of these people act, they are scared. It borders on terrified.

I have never liked cities and I truly do not care for this one, but it never struck me how afraid these people are, even the police. I think the thing that I find most amazing...they exhibit all the signs of fear and none of the recognition that they are afraid.

That's because no one on the train, streets, cabs or places with people , make eye contact. Look one in the eye and see the results. When i rode the subway, eye contact was always job 1, alongside head on swivel.

Makes sense to me.
First 911,thre scared of the terrorists, not really though when I was there-the New Yorkers were lookin for some butt to kick.
Then they had Bloomberg and Cuomo.
And don't forget the administration we have now.
So yea there scared ,wondering whats next and how will it hurt them.
Damn glad I escaped when I did!!

What neighborhoods? NYC is five large cities in very close proximity. Each of those boroughs has numerous neighborhoods just like any city. Its been a while since I worked there (pre Sept. 11), but I don't recall ever being afraid or seeing fear among the average resident. Most New Yawkers are pre-occupied by their own lives and they are busy going about their business.

Enjoy your time in the Big Apple. Lots to do and plenty to see. Be safe.

Manhattan. It is just weird. I've been in Philly, Pitt, Chicago, D.C., and the people seem off, skittish etc.

Have you been walking around nude? Maybe they don't encounter a lot of free people.

Of course not, I've had shoes on!

I've visited all of those cities but only worked for extended periods of time in DC, Philly, and NYC.

Even Manhattan has neighborhoods. Midtown isn't Harlem and neither are anything like Washington Heights. Be a tourist and enjoy yourself.

Obviously you'll need to bring them out of their shells.

Go to some pizza place and yell "can I get a real pizza like the one from Chicago instead of this thin crust $#!+? F### Steinbrenner!"

Sent from my heliograph tower.

The New Yorkers can sense you are from Colorado and instincts take over. Must be the old Cordite vs. Armani olfactory conflict.

JUST DON'T WINK AT THEM!

This is the best advice, absorb the experience and enjoy it. Explore!!
