Came across this video about safes. Good info and I learned a lot and thought I'd share.

I watched this before I bought my safe. Good for people looking to buy a safe.

This is why I did not buy a safe with a composite door. It is also why I went to a place that just sells safes. Without being educated the composite doors look really secure to me.

A buddy with a gun store turned me on to Sportsman Steel Safes. I've been pretty happy with it.

Yes very informative!! As of now, the redundant locks are not exclusive to Fort Knox and they've been used in commercial applications for many many years.

I'm happy with the Lock on my Superior Safe. It basically is the same Sargeant and Greenleaf series we use at work. I even borrowed a change key to change the Lock Combo after getting it.

S&G mechanical locks are great as are other brands but their electronic locks (found on some fat boys and others) are junk. Also, if you want customer service tech over the phone, S&G charges $30 to talk to a human.

Mechanical is the only way I will ever go. I ave been around these locks ans smiths working on these things for 10 years... plus I know a GSA locksmith through work if I need anything worked on or advice so I am good there.

I also didn't know we had a "Safe Man" on the threads or I would have seen what he has in stock before buying somewhere else.

No worries brother, if you're like most, you'll out grow your current safe and need to upgrade:D.
As for mechanical locks, yes they're uber reliable but they are slow to operate and like the guy said in the video, 90-95% buy electronic locks for ease of use. That's why the redundant locking system is key...best of both worlds!!

I'm a patient person. Plus if I need to get in and out of the safe multiple times throughout the day i'll just lock the dial temporarily.
If the BGC "law" doesn't get repealed i won't be buying many more. I also built a shelf system around my current one, so not sure how the expansion will work.
