Only 15% of voters voted for annexation.

Except that's not what happened. They just flat out lied about the results.

If only 30% showed up to vote it's their problem. 50% of the people that voted wanted to be part of Russia. That's enough to elect a moron president in the US.

Don't even need 50% of those who voted in the US - electoral vs referendum style.

Why does this feel like Russia purposely released these? Just taunting us and waiting for us to throw the first stone.

Is it their problem for not showing up? If you KNEW that the numbers put out would be fake, would you show up?

I think this whole situation is one we need to keep out of dirrectly. Support NATO and have them do their thing. Other NATO countries need to man up.
This was the whole reason NATO was formed!

Ukraine isn't a NATO member country, anyway.

I understand that Crimea/Ukraine isn't NATO. The point was that NATO was formed to prevent oppressive leaders from trying to take over other countries and come to their aid.
I wonder if any countries other than Sweden are considering joining NATO now.

Non-NATO countries can request NATO protection if they offered it.

Right next door you have Poland, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia which are all NATO countries.

I bet the next thing we start seeing is peace treaties in neighboring countries with Russia around the Ukraine. Similar things were done at the beginning of WWII and then they attacked them too.
We all know that nobody breaks Peace Treaties... Right?

They can request it, but they aren't guaranteed protection. NATO is an organization of nations that agree to help other member countries in times of need.

Today's NATO is completely different from the 80s and 90s.. Heck you can barely recognize it from the 2000s.

The outgoing Secretary General wanted 50% tax when he was the pm of Denmark.. And the incoming SecGen is a Norwegian socialist who ran an aggressive environmental campaign when he was the tree hugger minister.

The era of good military leader is long gone.

As I type the above I just realize.. Post First World War, Western Europe and League of Nations were so afraid of war that they were all about disarming, sanctions, and appeasement... And they elected pussy leaders to make sure of it...Damn de ja vu

The recent news in the U.S. has reported that the U.S. Armed Forces are drawing down to pre-WWII levels, and the polls reflect the same sense of isolationism from the things happening in Europe that was prevalent in America in 1936-1940. I am not saying that there is an impending genocide going on in Europe, but there is a major conflict brewing and we again find ourselves turning a blind eye to the events just hoping to stay out of any conflict. History does have a way of repeating if we don't pay attention and make changes in how we deal with such matters.

LOL

Putin won't "accidently" release anything.

This is probably a fake story generated by the western press to bolster support for Ukraine's corrupt government and assimilation into NATO/EU.

I find it amusing when people state "we are drawing down". The US spends more on defense than Russia, China, and the EU combined, and we project more power around the globe than any other nation.

In regards to the Ukraine, why shouldn't we turn a blind eye? What threat does an impending civil war in that former Soviet state pose to the US or to its NATO allies? The lack of mail order brides?

A lot of Russian surplus ammo is exported from Ukraine. They also produce their own, which is sold under the Wolf brand.

I think the mail order mail brides are more useful than Wolf ammo...[LOL]
