I have been tossing this up for quite some time now. It'll be going on a BCM M4. I have been debating on the Aimpoint PRO and the smaller EoTech lately. Well, I just got an email from AIM that they have PRO's for $369 delivered, this weekend.
What are your guys' thoughts?
Cheers

I'd go with the Aimpoint. No real reason. Just think it looks more at home on an M4 style rifle than an Eotech. In my mind, the Aimpoint screams "military" while the Eotech is a bit more "law enforcement".

From what I've read, the Aimpoint is going to be more durable. What distances are you wanting to shoot? From my experience, the Eotech's utilizing the 65MOA ring were too cluttered for distance shots, while the Aimpoint was much more enjoyable at further distances. Personally, I think the Aimpoint PRO is the best bang for your buck optic out there.

Aimpoint.

The Eotech is a good optic, but the Aimpoint is a great optic. I've shot Eotech's plenty of times, but I own Aimpoints. I'd like to have a rifle with an EXPS3-2 one day, but that will be after I have 4-5 more Aimpoints and/or Trijicons.

Try out both and see what works best for you. I know popular opinion goes aimpoint because the battery lasts until the end of times, but I get starbursting with aimpoints and other simple red dots that I don't get with the eotech.

So.. got any shooting buddies near you that have some to try?

Thats the thing. I dont know anybody that has either. Ive only just recently handled an EoTech at Cabela's the other weekend. I like it. But pretty much everybody online says go with AimPoint.
Distances? If it came down to it, I cant see using this rifle for anything outside of 200yards. So, I think either would work.
The AimPoint at this price is way cheaper.

Can't go wrong with either one.

Aimpoints have the best battery live for constant on. If you change the batteries out every 2-3 years on your birthday you should never worry

EOtechs (some if not all) have auto shutoff. So they still last a while with that feature but it's one more thing to remember on a HD or Duty rifle.

I went with Aimpoints because of battery life and weight. But I just picked up a used EOTech.

Too bad you're not down here in COS, I could set you up to shoot both. Surely there's folks on here from up your way who can meet you somewhere and give you a trial I'd hope.
Any volunteers?

I have an Aimpoint Pro on an AK and an EoTech EXPS-2 on an AR and I love them both. I like the simplicity of the the Aimpoint as well as its amazing battery life. I also like the 65moa ring on the EoTech and while it's battery life is an order of magnitude less than the Aimpoint, it's still not bad. They both come with mounts (integral on EoTech). I wasn't a fan of the included QRP2 mount the Pro comes with though.

The AimPoint at this price is way cheaper.

EoTech periodically runs specials. They just had a $60 rebate a few months ago. Optics Planet had a big discount during the same time and combined I got the EXPS-2 for low 400's. Still more than the Pro which seems to hold steady at about $365.

Can't go wrong with either one. I know a lot of internet experts will say the Eotech isn't as rugged but I have yet to see one destroyed myself. I think everyone on the net just jumps on the Aimpoint band wagon.

I actually prefer the Eotech dot over the Aimpoint but not real crazy about the form factor of the Eotech.
Aimpoint battery lasts longer but is also a special battery (depending on model) so when it does die you may be screwed. I like the Eotechs that use the CR123. Same battery for my lights so I'm covered.

Something else to consider on the Aimpoint price. I Hate the mounts they come with. Big and bulky. You may eventually end up dropping another $150+ for a better mount at some point.

All Aimpoints can take the optional spare battery cap. I keep one in the pistol grip for those without.

Yeah, I've got one of those on my Aimpoint. Still a more "rare" battery then even the cr123

Does anybody know of a place that has AimPoint products, in particular the PRO? Like I said, I've now at least handled the EoTech but I've never personally seen anything AimPoint

Get the aimpoint. That is my honest opinion and I have nothing to gain. Guys at my PD who have Eo's have nothing but trouble with them ranging from dead batteries to the prism falling out of place and rattling around. And thats just on range days. No issues from the aimpoints. There are some Eo's that have been through hell and still run but they are few and far between. Aside from the reticle of the Eo (which I dont care for) I see no reason to get one over an aimpoint. More robust and far superior battery life.

I've had both. While I prefer the reticle of the EOTech and the 1MOA dot in the center is a lot more precise, I came to the realization that if I ever need that level of precision, I'll use a scope.

Currently I don't have either, but instead just bought a dual-illuminated RM05 to fill the short range need. Of course, all my ARs also have iron sights which are decent for close range too.

Go aimpoint.. The eotech I bought 2 months ago the reticle won't adjust windage or elevation after 500 rounds . Have handle the aimpoint and the fact it is more rugged than the eotech plus can leave on for 3 years. I just purchased one for 399 for my new colt 6720. Need to zero both over the 4th

What about an RMR? Incredibly rugged and in your price range

I'd rather have something with a bigger window on my rifle

Wait until you test both to decide. I found running the same drills that I was more accurate with a single dot (Aimpoint) vs an EoTech reticle. I found the 65 MOA ring fast but my accuracy suffered. I can build more speed with time. Aimpoint made me focus on placement more at close distances and 4 MOA dot is only the width of a person @ 400 yds and capable of 1st rd hits at that distance. Anything beyond that and you'll want good glass anyways.

Personally I have now owned both. One day ColoCCW brought out an SBR with an aimpoint on it. I tried it next to my eotech. I sold the eotech and went aimpoint. Why? not for the battery life, not for the robust housing or looks. I liked the smaller dot much better compared to the giant ring with dot. But, I am not doing close in work. I may like the eotech better for close in cqb, but out here at longer distances I think the small single dot of the aimpoint is better.

Pretty much nailed my opinion of the two.

My wife and I both have the Aim Point Pro on our KAC SR 15 rifles with a primary arms 3 magnifier. This site is really really good! Easy to zero keeps the zero and is rock solid. the red dot is clear and adjustable for different lighting conditions the battery lasts about three years its always on and ready to go if TSHTF. I like everything about this optic, from the price to the looks of it. I would recommend it to anyone.

Aim point looks better/shoots faster on target to me. However, the mount sucks.
I spent an additional $140 on a bobro mount (which I love) after the stock mount crapped out in a class. It loosened up and went all jiggly midway through the day. fyi

Compared to a t-1 with a bobro from G and R tactical for $670, the PRO is $365 delivered plus $140 for a better mount = $510

510 or 670

So, the real question, as I see it, is whether you want a 30mm (PRO) tube or a 20mm tube (Micro) that costs about $150 more, after you consider the possibility of a better mount for the 30mm tube.

Personally, I have both and like the "smallness" of the micro. Both look about the same to me, and the micro is altogether smaller and less "complicated". YMMV

I've used Eotechs on all my rifles and never had a problem with any of them. The biggest problem I see people having with them is losing the little rubber spacer in the battery compartment when changing batteries. Otherwise, they generally work as advertised and will take a hell of a beating.
