I saw it on CH4. I did note that the surveillance cameras in that place are terrible! In one shot the robbers look right at the camera but there's no way to ID since the video is so grainy.

Wonder if they were smart enough to leave the most identifying Camouflaged rifles alone?

Years ago, when I was a gun store cowboy in Florida, we sustained at least three robbery attempts per year. Couple times, folks tried to drive an vehicle through the storefront, even after we installed reinforced concrete pylons in front of it. We'd come in find a smashed up car on a pylon. Because of the frequency of these events, we were required to take every damned firearm in the store and cram them into the safes in the office at the close of shift. I used to hate it, because it took about an hour after we closed to get them all racked up and secured. On the flip side, we never lost a firearm despite multiple break-ins.
Sorry to see this happen to anyone.
All the money in merch. and zero into security. What is this, 1970 cameras?
Sux they were robbed, but really...
Seems pretty common. When was the last time you saw security camera footage that didn't suck? We have 12 megapixel cameras in our pockets, for Pete's sake! Why do they still only have .5MP cameras in these big, obvious security cameras which seem to be constantly underexposed?
Maybe because the 720p sec cameras cost 300 dollars and the megapixel ones can cost a thousand apiece not counting the difference in cost of the pvr systems? Still short sighted savings when your inventory is so portable

Hmmm, pretty sure our $250 Summer baby monitor would have done a much better job.

A 720p cost $300??? Megapixels @ Super Circuits (dot) com start at $179.99.
Not sure what you meant?

One of the biggest issues with video systems is storage of the video itself. Quality Digital video takes a ton of storage, depending on the number of cameras, and the amount of time you need to store, it can be very costly just in media to store the video files.

background checks for cars. Tougher laws may have prevented them from acquiring one.

Technically it's not a "Robbery". They committed Burglary on all of those incidents. Nonetheless glad they caught the little turd bags and hopefully all of the firearms were recovered.

there's no technically about it--it wasn't a robbery, plain and simple.

Yup. You'd either need to outsource your footage to a 3rd party storage server, overwrite the footage everynight, or buy your own dedicated server/storage unit. 720p video @ 30 FPS will use a GB every few minutes.
So even flushing the footage every 7-10 days is a big storage deal?

Esspecially with 2 TB DVR 8 camera systems going for under $1K ? You would think a Gun Shop would have updated their video suvailence system from VHS...... At least that is what the video clip appears to be.
Glad to see the suspects were caught...not glad to see that they broke into DCF a second time. Thanks for catching them CRPD!!

You could save a lot of space by just overwriting/erasing that data each morning when you come in. In which case, you could probably get by with a $60 external from Best Buy. It all depends on how long the owner wants to archive footage of day to day operations.

WTG ... federal felonies for $5K worth of merchandise.
I think the system I know of only records footage once the motion detection has been triggered. That seems like a pretty reasonable way to go, especially after hours.

low light and no light are the bane of the security camera industry... when you use IR illuminators and have the cam switch to a mode it can use them all quality goes out the window.
but crappy footage is better then no footage .
most DVR systems do motion sensing tho in low light and long cable runs you can get glitches that the system thinks are movement but are not and you set the recorder to save 10-15 ( or more) seconds after it senses the first movement so that you can keep recording the action without odd stoppages when it's a for real break in.
you really get what you pay for with the DVR systems. buy cheap get cheap results .. buy expensive get expensive results.
The difference between a 100 buck cam and a 150 buck cam is AMAZING.

Every time we get video footage from any place it sucks. Actually McDonalds has one of the most advanced, clear, and apparently easy to use systems that I have seen yet. Wal Mart has pretty good set up that I have seen, but does not appear to be user friendly. Gas stations, gun stores, bars, and so on have the worst systems it seems. Lots of robbery, theft, fights, property crimes, etc happen and the owners always get upset when I ask them why they don't invest in a different system and they get even more upset when I tell them I can't see anything and their video footage is just about useless.

It seems to me that the solution, especially for security systems, would be to have a bunch of visible spectrum lights come on with the motion detectors. Why would you not want to light the inside of your business if someone breaks in in the middle of the night? Light is the enemy of sneak thieves.

i agree for most solutions ...
If it was my gun store i'd want that place to light up like the vegas strip on a summer saturday night.
Sometimes that can't work .. like in a night club during open hours.....

Yeah, why not spook the hell out of the thieves with some halogen bulbs taking them from near zero light to O type star levels of brightness?
Just saw on the news that they have two juveniles in custody for this. Seems the dipshits came back again this morning to break in again. Cops recovered $5k in stolen goods.
