I still cannot believe the cost of ammo that we shot up and what the going rate is out in the real world is now. We burned out many barrels then and I only dream of doing such again even if it is on my own stuff. Nothing like having the hummer back end loaded with .50 cans going out and coming back with empty cans. Shooting on the fly hanging on to the gun as we are jumpin through the desert burning ammo on targets free gunning and recon by fire, I am getting old now, back to the TV and remote control.
Anyone else from 3/5 out there? found one at my work babysitting loosers/criminals in blue thankfully

I am an Army 68W20 (Combat Medic) currently deployed to the Al Anbar province of western Iraq. I have six years of service. During my term, I have served in FT Benning, FT Sam Houston, FT Stewart, Japan, Kuwait, and Iraq, as well as being sent to participate in Operation Katrina Relief after the Hurricane which devastated the great state of Louisiana. I also had the rare privilege of serving as assistant NCOIC for a military honor guard team. We participated in different types of missions such as military funerals. I personally led, or participated in over 500 military funerals.
I am the only one my immediate family to serve in the armed forces. I am grateful for being so privileged to help defend freedom.

I was medically discharged due to two broken knee caps from training. Never deployed and I miss the Army everyday. One of the best life experiences I ever had. Worst regret at the same time. I wish I had never got injured or fought harder to stay in and just re-class or something. At least I tried is what I tell myself. Better than some lame asses out there who bitch but never put in.

Basically, for the first half of my AF career, I had to put up with problematical loadmasters (zipper suited sun gods like Hoser). Then the second half I got rid of societies human garbage, pot heads to Al Quada and everthing in between.

Civilian here.

Years back I was very close to joining, and an enlisted buddy of mine at time asked my why I wanted to join.

I told him I wanted to get away from all the corporate BS I was putting up with in the private sector.

He replied that if my aim was to avoid BS, joining the military would be a huge mistake. So I didn't.

This was before 9/11.

I'd be over there right now if they'd have me, but it's too late.

1976-1979 CONG medic Trinidad CO. I met BEEBE! Had fun with power wagons.
1980-1983 USAMU free ammo and a AC shop.

No, I tried to join right out of high school, but the MD doing the medicals said I had a bad heart. After seeing a couple of Cardiologist's who all said I was fit for duty, they still wouldn't let me join. That's probably my biggest regret in life.

I wouldn't regret something you had no real control over. Sounds as if you tried your damndest to join and the stupid powers that be wouldnt let.
Dont regret it, you did all you could.

What was the number when You were there?

I was in so long ago it was 91B,, Then just before I got out it went to 91A..

91A was the official Hospital Medic
91B was the Combat Medic.

Then later one they changed 91A to 91C when they gave them the LPN 91B stayed the same.

Then the army decided to combine the two (Most likely to make it more apprealling for recruiting) and they called it 91W. "healthcare specialist" if you happen to get LPN school you were known as a 91WM6. Everyone else got EMT-B. you might call them "Combat medics". (I was the frist class that they converted to 91W)

3 years ago, the army removed alot of classification of jobs they no longer had. so 91W was turn into 68W.

grrr... No. I am a musician and have won several audition positions in the Military including a Hellcat (USMA), Falconaire (USAFA), and Pershings Own (USAA Washington) but due to my broken neck (way back in high school, single car rollover) and medical history (aka "weight problem"... ain't a problem to me, I can run just fine) was not able to sign the contract. I have three generations ahead of me that have served, and I can't continue that tradition. I can run, gun, and follow orders, but alas, it is not to be.... So sad.
Actually funny story, one time I was able to talk a recruiter into working with me for a few months on the weight issue. Everything I did, I just kept gaining weight! I told him that muscle weighs more than fat. At my flabbiest I was like 280, then started working out and topped 320lbs. Now I'm not morbidly obese like some off these 400 pound apes you see walking around with McD's haning out their mouths. I am just a "thick" guy. Mose people think I weight around 230 or so wehn they look at me. Military wants me 250 and below for my height, 260 if they put me under a bodybuilder category. I told 'em I came out of my momma at 300lbs! lol, j/k.

Desert Shield and Storm, officially avionics on C-130s, unofficially I ended up being an air traffic controller for a couple weeks on an ALCE team in Iraq and Saudi, and even got to do some EOD work destroying rockets.
Had more fun down at Howard in Panama though when I could get down there. I loved that place...

Nothing wrong with not having served. Being the type of forum it is you will have a high percent of people that served. Brutal and I belong to another forum that there might be 10% of the 70K members.
