Saw it on FB last night. That is terrifying and awesome at the same time!

I would have been hiding in the basement if that thing came in my direction! [Peep]

Pretty awesome display from old mother nature. As you are a resident of Windsor I suspect that you are quite sensitive to this. I would be too.

Saw it on the NASA pic of the day page. Ominous. Yep, that was ominous.

How do supercell storm clouds form? Pictured above (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoO89cqDgJU) is a time-lapse video taken last Sunday detailing the formation of one such violent supercell in eastern (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newcastle,_Wyoming) Wyoming (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wyoming), USA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_United_States). Starting as part of a large and dark thunderstorm complex, the supercell (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercell) comes together along with a large rotating updraft of air known as a mesocyclone (http://w1.weather.gov/glossary/index.php?word=mesocyclone). Mesocyclone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesocyclone)s form during rapid changes in wind speed and direction with height and can produce torrential rain (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNTTf6dIygA), damaging hail (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fU8ba1OOLrc), swirling winds (http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap130618.html), and sometimes tornadoes. Storm watchers are seen studying, imaging, and ultimately running from the developing storm (http://www.universetoday.com/111998/dramatic-timelapse-shows-develpment-of-supercell-mothership-storm-cloud-in-wyoming/) cloud during the video. During the middle part of the video, the kilometer-wide supercell (http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap130505.html) can be seen swirling ominously with a nearly flat bottom (http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/askasci/wea00/wea00041.htm). Toward the end of the video, another swirling supercell (http://www.spc.noaa.gov/misc/AbtDerechos/supercells.htm) cloud forms but then quickly dissipates.
