Dave Mustaine is honoring his country and Jimi Hendrix with a new heavy metal rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner."

The Megadeth frontman's take on the U.S. national anthem comes as the 45th anniversary of Hendrix's iconic performance at Woodstock approaches this summer. It's also being used for the new film America from Dinesh D'Souza, the man behind the right-leaning documentary 2016: Obama's America.

Mustaine tells The Hollywood Reporter that no version of the anthem can top the original. He says his version was inspired by the Founding Fathers, adding that he tried to use his guitar to express his hope that America will "become a nation they'd be proud of again." [rockon][rockon][rockon]

Mustaine's "Star-Spangled Banner" premiered in a teaser trailer for D'Souza's America, which is scheduled to hit theaters on July 2nd.

He'll yeah! Loved it! I've been a fan since high school and seen him many times live.

But my question is; how the hell did Dave and Dinesh ever hook up?

Music nerd moment... What exactly classifies that performance of the National Anthem as a "heavy metal" rendition? The only standard hall marks were a few pitch bends. But even that can be found in rock, jazz, country, etc. I suspect that simply because the artist is a heavy metal cat, the writer of the promotion thinks that a heavy metal rendition? It was nicely done, but not necessarily a la Hendrix either...

Off topic...

Sorry, back to your "regulatory" scheduled programming.
