NEWTOWN, Conn. -- The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) today issued the following statement:

The National Shooting Sports Foundation has been investigating the possible role of the federal government in influencing banks in their lending and business banking relationship decisions regarding companies in our industry. We have heard from several industry members that they had banking relationships terminated by their lending institutions.

We respect the right of financial institutions to make business decisions based on objective criteria. It is unacceptable, however, to discriminate against businesses simply because they are engaged in the lawful commerce of firearms, an activity protected by the Second Amendment.

NSSF staff has met with members of the House Financial Services Committee and members of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee concerning several documents that have surfaced from the FDIC labeling companies in the firearms and ammunition industry as "high risk."

As a result, we have worked with U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-MO) and expect that he will offer today an amendment to the FY15 Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill, which would prevent federal funds from being used as part of "Operation Choke Point" or in any effort targeting companies involved in the lawful commerce in firearms.

We will continue to investigate the extent of any improper government involvement and will update our members as more information becomes available.

What?!?!?!?!...you've got to be kidding...no way man. [Sarcasm2] The government uses its influence within the banking system to deny certain groups access to loans...say it isn't so.

This wouldn't be like the IRS targeting Tea Party groups would it....or giving money to CCC rated companies like Solyndra...or prosecuting citizens for supposed bad acts while letting murderers and rapists cross the southern border with impunity.

One of my favorite movies.

Back to topic, don't forget that we most probably know people who think that what the government did here is A-OK...and they vote...and they are on this forum too.

I used to think all those folks yelling about "Impeach Obama" and "he's worse than Hitler" were just over doing it a bit, but now I am not sure they are. I keep reading about the passive aggressive opposition from the ruling administration and it is beginning to worry me 10x more than anything the Bush W. group ever did.

The banking thing might be just one of many deeds that were termed "under the radar".

Nothing new here... Let's give them some comparison... Hitler didn't allow banks in Germany to do business with Jews...

Well in kinda good news: Congress had defunded "Operation Choke Point" (http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2014/05/30/EXCLUSIVE-GOP-Passes-Amendment-Denying-Funds-To-Operation-Choke-Point)

The house passed it...not congress. The amendment will have to pass in Reid's senate...good luck with that...and then be signed by Obama.

Can't be - that would be ILLEGAL!... Oh wait, I forgot who was in office... never mind, I retract.

Good job that NSSF is standing up for what is right! I hope that this actually goes somewhere in the direction of helping those who own gun-related businesses to get the start up stuff that they may need.

Not with this administration in power.

It isn't just "this administration" that's way too cozy with banks and anti-gun oligarchs. The establishment GOP is equally willing to sell out principle for payola. And the NRA backed the sleazy Wall Street puppet Eric Cantor over a maverick champion of free-market Republican values.

A different administration may not lump gun stores in with drug cartels as business for bankers to avoid. I expect the games to be played no matter who is in power but we can at least get ones that are not out to overtly screw us over.

More likely he's been too comfortable with the oligarchy style, establishment, anti-gun banks and sleazy wall street puppets to notice.
Hopefully none of them have lost their e-mail. .

People are detached from anything but their own small circle of reality. Bread and circuses isn't just a cute term, it really works, the government knows this and exploits the deliberate ignorance and stupidity of the masses.
