Okay I know I need this like a hole in the head, but something iconic about this round that has always captured my attention. Doubt it will ever get shot more than a few times, but a Ruger No 1 or Winchester high wall in this caliber would be great to add to the collection. Even a bolt action rifle would be good option.

With the exception of Savage, looks like most manufacturers these days build a bolt action rifle in 375 H&H these days. Doubleltap also has 235gr Barnes TSX, which would make an excellent elk or moose round, but pretty pricey at nearly $4 per round. Fortunately there is some Pri fodder at less than $2 per round.

While my 7mm-08 is my primary hunting rifle, I don't find the recoil of the 375 H&H objectionable.

Any input from any 375 H&H owners out there?

Not an owner myself, but my brother has a pre 64 mod 70 in 375. Was our grandpas. Old man put a set of lyman peeps on it. Helluva rifle and round. He (my bro) rolls his own, usually hunts with 270 gr rnsp. I remember blowing up rocks for fun at 700 yards. Also first time I hit the buffalo at Whittington was with that gun. 6'x10' target at 1123 yards with peeps. Yeah, it took me about 6 tries to get there. My opinion is to go for it. Something really cool about the belted magnums. I've always had feelers out for a 300 H&H myself, just to be a little different.

Great story. Pretty impressive shooting out to 1123 yards with iron sights. I wonder if I could even see something at 100 yards with peeps and my old eyes.

Like I said, it took me a few tries to get the range and wind in. Had a good spotter helping me.

That they do and with some very special pricing. Always wanted to pick up a double rifle, but they can get expensive.

Now there is a reason to drive down to NM. Pubic range?

Technically private, but for a modest fee you can shoot for the day/ weekend or become a life member. Info in the range is here.

$20 bucks a day for basic range access. More fees for the shotgun range and other facilities. They have various cabins for rent, RV space and primitive camping. The various ranges are really nice. I know a few of the board members travel down here regularly for matches. Good way to have a shooting vacation.

If anyone is ever headed this way, let me know. I can give good advice on where to go and where to eat. Who knows, maybe I'll even sneak away and go shooting with ya.

Very cool caliber. I bought mine when I came home from my first trip to Africa. Shot one over there and decided I needed one.

I wanted a Holland & Holland Double rifle, but didnt have $75K to spare.

Ain't that the truth. Friend of mine went to Holland and Holland with $25K in cash to buy himself a double rifle and came home with the money still in his pocket. Said the Brits just snickered at him and told him that was enough for the down payment.

Looking at a Remington 798. Not real familiar with them, but anything chambered in 375 H&H automatically seems to carry a premium. Comes with a Mauser action, which is a good action to build from. Understand the barreled actions are built by Zastava and sent to Remington. They come with a 26" barrel, which seems about 2" too long. They've been discontinued but reviews are generally positive.

I want a Blaser R8, one barrel in 375 H&H and flip a coin for the other. I don't need it, can't afford it, haven't the time or skills to put it to proper use, and would probably need four advil after every shot. But I really enjoy mechanically unique actions :)

Ended up finding a CZ 550 Safari. Milled dovetail rail seems a little odd for a heavy boomer like this, but seems to work.
