A good buddy of mine, Ray just got back from a trip with Heroes and Horses.

http://www.heroesandhorses.com/

He had such a great time riding in Montana, and he was so impressed with this outfit and what they do for our combat vets that he's trying to raise money so that next summer he can take a mule train up the Continental Divide Trail (solo, I might add) from . When he gets to them in Montana, he'll donate all of the animals and tack to Heroes and Horses. He's trying to raise $20,000 for the trip (that's animals and tack, not supplies). If he falls short, it might be 3 mules instead of 4, for example.

Ray was a Special Forces Engineer and currently works contracting overseas (how he met these guys - through some former SEALS he works with). I know several of you on the site have met him.

Here's his Facebook page -

https://www.facebook.com/HeroesandHorsesSoloExpedition

And here's the Gofundme site his wife set up:

http://www.gofundme.com/9fh2hs

If you didn't see it on their page, they now have a tab just for Ray's trip:

Ultimately, it's a darn cool trip for Ray and H&H gets a lot of animals and gear for his efforts.

Please help support my good Amigo with a few bucks to the cause. If you feel better donating directly to H&H on their page, we're all good with that.

If you donate to Ray's trip, hang on to some kind of confirmation. I don't yet have it worked out, but I plan on doing a drawing in the near future for 1,000 home made cast boolits - your choice of .45, .44, .357 or possibly 9mm (not loaded ammo, just component bullets that I cast).

Please help this vet help other vets. Back country is good for the soul.

I can vouch that Ray is both a good guy and completely serious about this. I, like most of us probably, am a little suspicious of a lot of veteran's charitable organizations. They seem like a lot of hype without much benefit. This is not that. Ray is one guy trying to make a bold gesture in a way that helps as many Vets as he can. The current VA scandal shows how the current administration feels about our former servicemen/women. It's up to us to take care of our own. Helping Ray is doing a good thing that you can believe in.

Well here is an update to the Hereos and Horses fundraising. A recent trip to Wy was very succesful and one mule was purchased for a pack animal. Another amazing lead mule was found but not enough funds have been raised to purchase it as of yet. I know there are a lot of veterans out there that need help. Please consider making a small donation of even $5 dollars to http://www.gofundme.com/9fh2hs (http://m14forum.com/redirect-to/?redirect=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gofundme.com%2F9fh2hs)
We only need a few hundred dollars more and we will be able to purchase a very fine animal to help wounded veterans recover and cope with there war wounds.

There are 4 animals purchased now! They are coming down to Co soon and feed is needed. Looking for some one to donate some hay to help us through the winter.
