View Full Version : Gunsmiths, Buy a new F marked sight for new barrel or recycle old sight?
It's no big deal but $25.00 is $25.00 and I'm getting ready to order.
BCM does not sell barrel assemblies so I'll have to have someone install a standard USGI front sight on the new barrel. Is it best to buy a new undrilled sight or just as well save a few bucks and re-use the old one, which is perfectly fine?
Hate to call Bert and ask right now, I know he's working his ass off to get caught up before the new job.

It's no bother.
Buy a new undrilled one. Trying to make a used one work on a different barrel typically is an exercise in futility.
Rifle or carbine? Carbines use the "F" marked base, rifles use the non F. There is a .040 height difference between the two.
20" flat top, Matech rear sight, rifle configuration. An M16A4 wannabe.
Non F marked front sights are hard to come by.

I have 2 of them. I'd go with on of the flip up clamp style sights, unless you want the stock look.
2 of what? 20" rifles or 2 standard A2 front sights?
Kind of sticking with the stock look is what this project is all about.

I thought the "F" marked front sights were for Flat-top uppers (taller rear), and non-F marked were for A1 and A2 rears.

That was my understanding as well.

In doing a bit of research I stand corrected. The F marked are in fact for the flattop receivers as the detachable carry handle rear sight is slightly higher than a fixed carry handle reciever's rear sight.
I feel like a shit head now.
