The Wife and I came to the conclusion that we should trade off her jeep for two reasons, first, I don't fit in it, and second, we still owed on it. I searched around for a decent deal on Expeditions and Explorers. I found a '99 Expedition Eddie Bauer in pretty good shape At Lakewood Fordland. Paperwork in the glove box for an engine replacement around 30k ago. Fine...trade the jeep, take home the Ford-and a promise of a check for the balance. Was also told about a "referral fee" if I helped them sell a vehicle. As it turns out, my Dad went down two days later and bought a nice Mercury, bingo, $150 more dollars for me. A few days go by and the Wife tells me her "new" car is making a funny noise. As it turns out Lakewood Fordlands idea of dealer prep doesn't include ENGINE OIL!! 1.5 qts is enough to keep the gauge normal, but kinda starves main and rod bearings. I call them up and ask what they want to do about it. The reply was "Did you buy an extended warranty?" Followed up with "Bring it down so we can have the service department look at it." I'll stop here and admit, I never checked the oil. However, I was told it was just serviced, so I figured all was well. Lakewood Fordland calls me the next day and says, "Yup, it needs a new engine." No shit. Sales manager starts the conversation with "I'm NOT giving you a new engine, period." Fine, didn't ask for one. I asked what are we going to do about it. Can't get the jeep back, it's sold already. They offer a total POS "97 Expedition in trade for my now worthless one. No thanks I tell them. Kinda suprised myself that I am still being calm and courteous. They show me a '03 Explorer they just took in on trade, I am told that I would have to pay an additional $1k. Fine, they still owe me $1650.00 for my jeep balance, plus the $150 referral. We go drive it, the a/c isn't working. I tell them about it, they have to take it to the service department, which is closed. Fine, I ask them to call me the next morning. They do, want to know if I'm going to come down and do the paperwork, I say sure, I'll give you a call when I leave the house. I call them an hour later to give them the heads up, but am told the Explorer now has an overheating issue, and check engine light on. Well fvck, this keeps getting better. I ask them to keep me posted. I hear nothing, keep in mind they still have my '99 Expedition down there. A few days go by, I check their used inventory on-line. The automated salesperson ask if it can help me, I give the stock number of the Explorer to them, and it turns out that it is indeed listed again-supposedly fixed. They call me this morning to see if I'm still interested, I said yes, told the guy on the phone the offer that was originally offered me, he told me he had to check with the manager, and would call me right back. I called the original salesman I dealt with, left a voice mail. Still haven't heard back.

So, after two weeks, I don't have the jeep, (no payments either), don't have any use of the Expedition I traded the jeep for, no news on the Explorer I was offered, and none of the money due me either. I sure think Lakewood Fordland is a great place to deal with.[Sarcasm2]

And that is why even though I would like a new truck I don't have one. I have not dealt with a car dealer in probably close to 15 years and I do not miss it a bit, I tried a few months back when getting the ol lady a replacement car. After getting jerked off for 5 hours or so I told the sales manager to F*&^ himself. I just cant deal with those sleazy types, My hackles are up before I even step on those lots.

I went by there last year looking to buy a car. Walked around the lot and inside for 20 minutes. Not one employee would give me the time of day. Not one "can we help you?" Nothing. That alone made me believe that placed sucked.

Well, when I first pulled in with the jeep, three salesmen greeted me, complemented the jeep, and thanked me for my service. ( I run US Army plates.) Kinda wished I'd gotten the 'cold shoulder" too.

Bum deal. I'd skip all of the low level people (sales managers, service managers, etc.) and go straight to the general manager or owner. He likely has no idea how your dealings are going and ultimately his his reputation and the reputation of his business on the line.

And, having spent over fifteen years of my life working in the automotive industry, I don't think very highly of anything Ford puts on the road that isn't a full sized truck. You didn't ask for my opinion but I'd look for something with a better reputation for dependability and longevity myself.

Best of luck to you.

Thanks ray. I'll stick with my Fords. Expeditions are based on full sized trucks, well, F 150's anyways.

I would tell them to keep that POS and cut me a refund check.

I concur about going over everyone's head to the manager/owner. That's what my dad had to do at Larry H Miller Toyota here in the Springs a couple years ago.

Good luck.

Call? you should be there when the doors open, or closer to 9 when the somewhat important people show up. They have a vehicle you paid for, they sold your jeep, they have been dickign you around. Time to bypass the food chain and go to the top.

No, I did sign the paperwork so they could pay off the loan on the jeep so they could get the title.

My hackles are up before I even step on those lots.

I'm like this, having worked in the industry in the past, I'm very cautious and on-guard the moment I set foot on a stealership's property. OP, I would walk away from this... Get the money for the jeep, tell them to keep the SUV, don't deal with them again. But make sure they make this all right first.

I would love this option to play out. They gave me $9500 for my jeep, pay-off was about 2k. I'd Happily walk away from this whole mess for $7500.

Then I would go thru an auto broker, that's how I got my BMW (about $3,000 less than via a dealer), or Automotive Avenues off 6th & Simms... Everyone I've known who went to them was happy, including myself (bought my Dodge Durango there in '04, best car buying experience I've ever had).

I've heard NOTHING but great things about Auto Avs. I had planned on buying a car from them, but unfortunately the first Gen 4 door Tacoma's aren't exactly in stock at most dealerships.

Good luck with Ford land OP, I hope you come out ahead in this deal.

Contact your lending institution. Tell them about the run around you are getting.
They may not be too thrilled about their collateral getting jerked around.

I bought a great used car, but had a terrible experience with Fordland back in 2002.... Took me 6 month to fix their mistakes and get the car titled. With all the horror story I have heard about them, I am surprised they are still in business.

I realize you signed the paperwork, however taking your vehicle without actually BUYING it from you. You literally at this point do not have a vehicle +cash in trade for the vehicle you gave them. To me that is theft, plus the way they did it seems like fraud.

Oh, is it story time about their staff?

Some years ago, I was working as a lube tech at the Green Mountain Big O Service Center. Two of my mechanic friends and I all drove built Jeeps. Another good friend of mine worked there with me who drove an old K10. So we were all pretty well-versed in the finer points of 4 wheel drives. So one day while we were doing something for one of their sales managers, he poked in the shop and somehow started bullshitting with us about the new F150.

As he was rattling off the features, he mentioned shift-on-the-fly electronic 4WD that can shift at up to 120 MPH. I couldn't help myself and pointed out that if I suddenly need 4 HI at 120 ticks, I'm already boned. I then explained how I'd rather have a chain-driven, manually shifted transfer case anyway. So he ate that one and kept rambling. Eventually, we got to the crazy high-end torque that this new motor supposedly produced. I noted that high-end torque on a 4WD is really only useful for highway-speed maneuvers, and we all agreed that we don't have any need for a fast truck.

At that point he asked us what we all drive (really condescending like), and we all mentioned our respective vehicles. He then went full retard and started discussing how the new F150 could roast us going through technical climbs and trails. We were all just laughing and began to egg him on to see just how far he'd go to try to sell a $50K truck to a bunch of techs who built their own rides from Craigslist donors. Finally the general manager walked back, heard what was going on and told him that he couldn't be back in the shop making a racquet with the guys trying to get work done.

I bought a 2000 excursion from schomp bmw, which included a 30 day warranty. Got it home and there was an occasional thump in the front end which is either ball joints or sway bar end links. Took in in for service and they replacedthe ball joints free of charge. No hassle. I hate dealerships too, and this is the only place that will get my business. They sell a lot of nice used cars in addition to bmw.

When I worked at a used car dealership, Lakewood Fordland had the worst stories.

When I worked at a new and used car dealership, Cherry Creek Dodge (any doug morland dealerships), Christopher Dodge, and Northglenn Dodge were the worst. This stories were from 15+ years ago.
Valley Dodge in Boulder was rated real bad, but I had fairly good dealing with them.

I don't know why, but most of the dealership I 've heard negative comments where Dodge Dealerships. (I sold imports.)

As Jim has already stated, you should have been there when the doors open and stayed till they fixed regardless of the time it took. If you have to call in sick to work, get this done now instead of later.

I have worked at numerous dealerships and when stuff like this happened the piss ants will jerk you around and the big boss catch very little wind of it. That was until the customer (you) was in their face right then and there. Go to the guy that sold you the Expedition and demand to speak to their service manager (one of his workers forgot to put oil in it) and their general manager. Explain to your salesman (although not really his fault) that you are not leaving till this is taken care of. I have literally seen thousands of dollars given away on deals because in the end "the customer is always right." No need to be one those psychos screaming in the parking lot but make sure they know you are there to get taken care of one way or another.

As far as that other Expeidtion goes, pass. If it has been overheated (who knows how many times and for how long) you are bound to have problems.

Well, I just got home from the dealership, and the Wife now has a nice (still used) V-8 Explorer XLT. She also got a no charge extended warranty, and I got my check for the difference, plus a referral check. In my defense. I did say vent, not rant. Still, I don't expect to get a Christmas card from him this year. His boss, and his bosses boss met me in the parking lot when I pulled in this morning, I guess all the e-mails did get noticed.

I have always been a Ford guy, love their trucks. My 94 Crew Cab dually was an incredible truck.
That being said, the 05 F150 that I gave up a couple of months ago was a POS. Funny how their "100,000" mile spark plugs are garbage. Mine literally ate 4 of them, the insulator and electrode broke off and the engine digested them. Replaced 6 coil packs within 15,000 miles, transmission was a slushbox.

I just picked up a 01 Silverado Z71 from a member here, high mileage but I will be damned if it doesn't run and drive better than the F150 that had about half the miles on it.
