View Full Version : Lt. Col. Robert Bateman is coming home to save us!
This guys just bugs me for some reason. (edited 06/12/14; Reading Cstone, Ginsue, and others posts made me realize why he bugs me so much. Earned military honors, yet completely against ideology of parts of the constitution he swore an oath to protect. Completely condescending attitude towards all others, very high on himself.)
His emotional sounding lame statements in red.
This is not his first anti gun post (posted that one farther below). Makes me wonder which anti gun group he is working for or who he wants to work for.
Pasting his guest post from ESQUIRE. (Because I don't want to link it directly)

Lt. Col. Robert Bateman
This is too much. We have Tea Party political activists shooting cops from behind, in the head, then covering their dead bodies with the Tea Party “Gadsden” flag and shouting, “The Revolution begins now!” No. I am coming home. I need to be there and be part of the solution. Moms Demand Action (http://www.momsdemandaction.org/) is getting some traction, but they can use the lean-in of a few U.S. Army Airborne Infantry Rangers. I am only sorry that I did not stand up to this threat to our nation before. I am sorry. I was busy.
I have been overseas in Afghanistan and in NATO nations for half a decade while the insanity of the National Rifle Association expanded and exploded, and the NRA became, essentially, the tool of death in the United States. They made mass killings normal.
Well done, NRA. But this shit is too much.
Constant cop-killing, by people who echo the NRA talking points and the conspiracy theories of the Internet wackos.
So I will come home, and perhaps some of those 3,000 nutjobs (http://www.esquire.com/blogs/politics/responses-to-post-on-guns-bateman-122013) who sent me hatemail might want to meet up, because I am more than fricking willing, you whining, little boy-toys who need guns. So many of you have threatened me that I am literally booked, but any of you who feel you have been left out, go ahead. Book a date. You bring your gun to try and convince me that you are not a complete and total idiot, and if you bring a gun, let us see which tool works best.
Wimps need guns. Come and get me.
http://www.esquire.com/cm/esquire/images/Gb/robert_bateman_s2.jpg Bateman, pictured, is an infantryman and a Military Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
Oh, and if you try to go lethal, to convince me that your rhetoric is more intellectually compelling than my own written words, I am going to be giggling at the Las Vegas odds on you, with your guns, and me.
So there is that. Bring it on, little boys.
The opinions here are only those of somebody that thinks a “Patriot Movement”—one which executes police officers—is not working in the service of the nation. They are only the opinions of someone who believes that “Tea Party members" who shoot policemen in the head— executing them at point blank range and then declaring that the “revolution” is starting before placing a Don't Tread on Me flag atop the dead bodies of the police officers you just killed in cold blood—are not good.
You may believe otherwise. If you do, screw you.
Constant cop-killing, by people who echo the NRA talking points and the conspiracy theories of the Internet wackos.

Pretty obvious if he is not on Bloomberg's payroll he will be soon. For his accusations of us being wackos he has no fear of talking like one either.
This was his original guest post he wrote back in Dec 2013. Where he got all of his threats from others.
Full of silly talk and such;
It's Time We Talk About Guns
We crossed the line some time ago, it has just taken me a while to get around to the topic. Sadly, that topic is now so brutally evident that I feel shame. Shame that I have not spoken out about before now -- shame for my country, shame that we have come to this point. One story tripped me (http://news.yahoo.com/sister-deadly-shooting-over-bama-loss-234944703--spt.html).
A woman charged with killing a fellow Alabama fan after the end of last weekend's Iron Bowl football game was angry that the victim and others didn't seem upset over the Crimson Tide's loss to archrival Auburn, said the sister of the slain woman.
People, it is time to talk about guns.
My entire adult life has been dedicated to the deliberate management of violence. There are no two ways around that fact. My job, at the end of the day, is about killing. I orchestrate violence.
I am not proud of that fact. Indeed, I am often torn-up by the realization that not only is this my job, but that I am really good at my job. But my profession is about directed violence on behalf of the nation. What is happening inside our country is random and disgusting, and living here in England I am at a complete loss as to how to explain this at all. In 2011 the number of gun deaths in the United States was 10.3 per 100,000 citizens. In 2010 that statistic in the UK was 0.25. And do not even try to tell me that the British are not as inclined to violence or that their culture is so different from ours that this difference makes sense. I can say nothing when my British officers ask me about these things, because it is the law.
And for that, frankly speaking, I am embarrassed by our Supreme Court.
The people who sit on a nation's Supreme Court as supposed to be the wisest among us. They are supposed to be the men and women who understand and speak plainly about the most difficult topics confronting our nation. Our Supreme Court, however, has been failing us, as their actions have been almost the exact opposite of this ideal.
You do not have to read this full Supreme Court ruling (http://www.loc.gov/law/help/second-amendment.php), it is a supplemental. I can spell it out for you in ten seconds.
Five of the nine members of the Supreme Court agreed that the part in the Second Amendment which talks about "A Well Regulated Militia, Being Necessary To The Security Of A Free State..." did not matter. In other words, they flunked basic high school history.
The lengths to which Justice Scalia had to go in his attempt to rewrite American history and the English language are as stunning as they are egregious. In essence, what he said about the words written by the Founding Fathers was, "Yeah, they didn't really mean what they said."
You have got to be fking kidding me. Seriously? You spent nearly 4,000 words (http://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/07-290.ZO.html) to deny the historical reality of thirteen words? That, sir, is an embarrassingly damning indictment not just of you, but of an educational system that failed to teach history.
But just so we are all clear on this, let me spell it out for the rest of you. During the American Civil War, a topic about which I know a little bit, we had a system of state militias. They formed the basis of the army that saved the United States. For most of the first year, and well into the second, many of the units raised by the states were created entirely or in part from militia units that predated the war. But even when partially "regulated," militias are sloppy things. They do not always work well outside their own home states, and in our own history and in our Revolutionary War, it was not uncommon for militia units to refuse to go out of their own state. In the Spanish-American war the way around this limitation was for "interested volunteers" to resign, en masse, from their militia units and then sign up -- again en masse -- as a "volunteer" unit. It was a cumbersome solution to a 123-year-old problem.
Which is why, in 1903 Congress passed the Militia Act (http://www.jstor.org/stable/25119439). Friends, if you have not read it I'll just tell you: As of 1903, the "militia" has been known as the National Guard.
They are "well regulated," and when called to do so as they have been these past twelve years, they can fight like demons. I am proud of them. And I am ashamed that Justice Scalia thinks that they do not exist.
Guns are tools. I use these tools in my job. But like all tools one must be trained and educated in their use. Weapons are there for the "well regulated militia." Their use, therefore, must be in defense of the nation. Shooting and killing somebody because they were not "upset enough" over the loss of a college football team should not be possible in our great nation. Which is why I am adding the following "Gun Plank" to the Bateman-Pierce platform. Here are some suggestions:
1. The only guns permitted will be the following:
a. Smoothbore or Rifled muzzle-loading blackpowder muskets. No 7-11 in history has ever been held up with one of these.
b. Double-barrel breech-loading shotguns. Hunting with these is valid.
c. Bolt-action rifles with a magazine capacity no greater than five rounds. Like I said, hunting is valid. But if you cannot bring down a defenseless deer in under five rounds, then you have no fking reason to be holding a killing tool in the first place.
2. We will pry your gun from your cold, dead, fingers. That is because I am willing to wait until you die, hopefully of natural causes. Guns, except for the three approved categories, cannot be inherited. When you die your weapons must be turned into the local police department, which will then destroy them. (Weapons of historical significance will be de-milled, but may be preserved.)
3. Police departments are no longer allowed to sell or auction weapons used in crimes after the cases have been closed. (That will piss off some cops, since they really need this money. But you know what they need more? Less violence and death. By continuing the process of weapon recirculation, they are only making their jobs -- or the jobs of some other cops -- harder.)
4. We will submit a new tax on ammunition. In the first two years it will be 400 percent of the current retail cost of that type of ammunition. (Exemptions for the ammo used by the approved weapons.) Thereafter it will increase by 20 percent per year.
5. We will initiate a nationwide "buy-back" program, effective immediately, with the payouts coming from the DoD budget. This buy-back program will start purchasing weapons at 200 percent of their face value the first year, 150 percent the second year, 100 percent the third year. Thereafter there will be a 10 year pause, at which point the guns can be sold to the government at 10 percent of their value for the next 50 years.
6. The major gun manufactures of the United States, less those who create weapons for the federal government and the armed forces, will be bought out by the United States of America, for our own damned good.
I'm kind of ashamed to have worn the same uniform as this asshat douchenozzle. And this fuckstain is allowed to lead troops in battle? GTFOutta here! The LV killers were not Tea Party.

We need to know those who are like this, he will no doubt be employed by the anti-gun power player. Luckily his rants and ideology is so far out there that he comes across as a whacko extremist in the other direction. Even the most basic citizens will smell the stench.

Lt. Col Bateman, Obama worshipping liberal, basically advocates violating the Constitution he swore to defend! I hope he resigns his commission.

LTC Bateman is entitled to his opinions. He has sworn his oath and served his nation.
May I suggest that if he is truly interested in fighting criminals with guns in this country, he apply for a job as a patrol officer in any major American city. Rather than lament the possession of guns by law abiding citizens, he could actually gear up and deal with criminals. Otherwise, he is just another voice in the wind: one that I will make certain to ignore.
Be safe.

What a huge load of horse shit!
I will agree that this country has a problem with violence, but it isn't a growing problem (recently released FBI data show violent crime is down 15.4% from 2007 to 2011... http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2011/crime-in-the-u.s.-2011/violent-crime/violent-crime ) and I will absolutely not accept that the violence is due to guns, it is ALWAYS the individual who chooses to perform a violent act that is responsible - regardless of the tool used. Perhaps we need to look at the causes of this violence and less on the tools used. What os driving people to loose their minds?
This man is an Army Ranger. I'm sure he earned that distinction, and that is highly respectable, but somewhere along the line he bought all of the BS in thinking he's now some sort of super hero, and a genius one at that. I've seen plenty like him during my service & in my contractor duties since. Thankfully, I've seen considerably more who are intelligent, capable, honorable and well-grounded. He seems to perceive himself as invincible as he's offering to make "dates" for anyone who wants to tangle with him but he's forgotten that no matter how good you are, there is always someone better. Sadly, his ego is so swelled that he can't conceive of his own limitations.
Too, for all of his certain education, this man is an idiot. What's worse is that he thinks we are too.
In a world with no guns it is unlikely anyone will be killed or assaulted by someone with a gun. He compares the gun deaths in the US in 2011 to the gun deaths in the UK in 2010. Yeah, the UK's rates are considerably lower; duh! I defer back to this paragraphs opening sentence: In a world with no guns it is unlikely anyone will be killed or assaulted by someone with a gun. Now, let's look at truly comparable data. Lets look at the "Per 100,000" statistics for ALL violent crime (such as rape, assault, murder, etc.) with ANY weapon and no weapons at all. I'm too lazy and not inclined to post the averages in the US & UK since 2005 - do your own homework & you'll see that ALL violent crime is HIGHER in the UK (predominantly England & Wales) than in the US. Oh, but we wouldn't want actual facts and fair comparisons to cloud his talking points - it might interfere with his agenda.
While he attempts to make a good argument about what our Founding Fathers meant by "militias", he again misses the mark. His use of Civil War era GOVERNMENT organized militias and the 1903 Militia Act are like comparing a 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang to a 2013 Ford Shelby GT500. While they're both "Mustangs" in name, they bear no real life comparison.
Again, he's so off base with much of what he says, but his rank has gone to his head when he thinks we all need to bow down to his wisdom and enlightened guidance. I could pick apart practically every one of his talking points with facts and logic but I'd be preaching to the choir here and I haven't the time nor inclination to do so. His anti-gin rants show that he's not only drank the Kool-Aid but he's been snorting down the damned Kool-Aid powder mix as well.

I like how a guy who uses a rifle for a living is making a challenge to fist fight people. Last time I checked, Cowboy Cerrone, Frank Mir, and Tim Kennedy were all pretty big fans of the Constitution; namely the 2nd amendment. The LTC said he's willing to take all comers, so make it happen, Dana!
But seriously, I stopped reading at "wimps need guns. Come and get me." The hypocrisy, irony, and empty threats entailed made me rage quit. This guy can kindly find an 122mm and shove it up his own ass.

He definitely needs to be admitted to a mental hospital. It is clear he is one instance away from snapping and becoming the next mass murderer. He could very well be the next shooter at a military installation killing his own men.
Now I'm sure this guy is tough, and can fight, and shoot, etc, but his comments still came across like this guy. Language in video.

Ok... Missing something. What incident is he talking to with cop killing and covering with the Gadsdon flag.
Second, don't make yourself a challenge. Somebody will take you up on it. I don't care how Billy bad ass you think you are, nobody can be prepared 24/7-365. This guy is aching to be shot as a martyr for the anti-gun cause. That is not good for anybody.

This guys rant both surprises and saddens me. He has obviously been in the mil awhile - long enough to see the current administration doesn't care about our soldiers in anything more than lip service. Benghazi should have told him they don't have his back. Obamacare and the VA scandal should have told him the gov isn't about quality health care. Homeland security's announcement about returning vets instantly being suspects for domestic terrorism should have told him there is a big target on his back, when he gets out. The administration position on gays in the mil and encouraging muslim members while suppressing Christians and Jews should tell him the "tolerance" and "intolerance" is politically motivated.
These days, I'm stunned whenever I see a rabid liberal serviceman or woman.

I know full bird colonels with command experience and PhDs who are having a hard time finding jobs. It's still a tough job market out there!
Granted, I wouldn't sell my soul to the devil but some will....
He had 3,000+ plus hate mail from his first political anti gun post back in Dec '13, wonder what this post is going to net him? He has a regular column opinion section of writing going on at Esquire. Several are very anti gun, he even goes off on several tangents about pro 2 a crowd and their harassment of Shannon and the MDA. He quotes Mother Jones articles as if they are pure truth....................... sad. so sad.
I cant believe he has served so long in the military earning his place yet his ideology is completely hypocritical of what he does. One thing makes sense though, he LIVES IN ENGLAND according to his writing.
Oh, look, an attention whore.

What I find interesting is that he is still writing and submitting this dreck using his official rank, not just Robert Bateman...what does the Army think of political writings from its officers? There had
to be a huge red flag raised after his earlier Esquire ragazine BS; is this a 10-foot pole situation?
I'm also mildly terrified that Uncle Fester here is allowed to be around full auto weapons.
ETA: his responses to comments on the article read like a youtube shitfest...WTH is up with this guy? It almost seems too over the top/possible trolling for comments
He earned his rank and can use it as a title. I know he is not speaking for the armed forces as each branch has full PR departments for that.

As a LTC he needs to familiarize himself with Articles 133 and 114 of UCMJ.

I think that's what rubs me wrong about this guy...it screams "mall-ninja", which is super scary coming from a sworn officer of the USA.
I also think that he is playing to an audience somewhat. As if anyone except the Slate, MJ, Esq., etc crowd gives 2 shits about what he thinks are valid reasons to own guns.[blah-blah]

This.
His ideals are entirely strange to me for someone who is in the profession of arms.
What's sad, is there are probably a few more like him lingering out there like a fart that won't leave the room. I can't say for certain where the hell this country is headed, but as I've said before...If the second American revolution is going to kick off, let's get this shit started already so I can fight in my sons' stead. I'd rather it be done now, before I'm old, stuck to a wheelchair, sucking food through a straw & shitting in a bag. To be honest, not sure the upcoming generation has the stones to stand and fight against tyranny. This country has been breeding a plethora of "sense of self entitlement" along with a side order of; "the government knows best and will take care of me" attitudes. Thanks to people like Bloomberg, Mom's Demand Action & MAIG, etc. who preach that the U.S. will automatically become some sort of grand utopia filled with unicorns and leprechauns shitting skittles once all the guns are taken away from the American people... What's worse is when you get the sheeple soaking that bullshit rhetoric up like a sponge and believing every word they say. FML. /endrant.

Like you wouldn't believe (ok, I know you do believe, but still). It's downright scary and terrifying. When I look at young kids these days, the dependence on all things electronic, the "why isn't this free?" mentality, the "oh there's rain on the field we can't play ball let go home and play video games", etc., it almost shatters all confidence in the future. Because you can see clear as day that they're picking up their parents habits and defeatist attitudes, and you can tell when they've learned particularly nasty bits from their worthless teachers.
Great response Squeeze. Well written/stated. Very impressed.
Thank you Ginsue, I've been MIA for a while (personal issues), but it feels good to be back. Guess I'm seeing things with a sense of clarity that I haven't had before. I'm sick and tired of guns being blamed for crime. It's the only inanimate object that is blamed for evil rather than the evil person. Lately I've been wondering if my father was scared for my future in the way I am scared for the future of my sons?

Short answer: YES! My friend's grandfather said "I thought it was going to get out of hand when I raised my son in the 1960's and 70's, but oh no, it was worse when my grandsons grew up in the 80's and 90's... Thank God I'll be dead when my great-grandsons will be raised in the 2020's, I don't think shit can get much worse." He has a very nice display from his time in Europe- it's his M1 Garand and an enemy's 98k, and he probably owns more guns than he can readily state.

My folks didn't hear me stop by this morning and before I came around the corner, I heard my father talking to my mother about how he was nervous about Iraq going sour, and the possibility of me getting drafted. I'm 28, too old to be drafted and he can't remember the year I was born. But it's good to know I'm not the only one in my family who see's how bleak things have been. He may be a self-described infantryman but his attitude and self-puffery screams REMF to me. "overseas in Afghanistand and NATO nations for half a decade" ... mmm hmmm ... okay, gotcha. One tour in Afghanistan to punch his ticket with the rest of the time schmoozing it up at NATO HQ or the Marshall Center or what have you. Great way to make O6 while being completely freaking irrelevant to actual national security.
