Any LEO (or First Responder) willing to let me buy them a coffee / lunch to take a look at the device (rugged laptop/tablet) installed in your vehicle? I've recently moved into a role with a manufacturer of these types of devices and would love to get some real-world experience on how they are in the vehicles. I see them a lot but only before they head out to be installed. You’ll certainly recognize the name of the company when I tell you, but I thought to keep it off the post just to keep my politics and company business somewhat separated. :)
Not sure if what I’m asking is out of line, if so I apologize, but thought I’d take a shot and ask. Feel free to PM me if you want vs. posting; whatever works for you. I’m north of Denver but will pretty much travel to wherever is convenient for you.
Cheers.[pick-me]

I can tell you most agencies use panasonic tough books. As for mounts stay away from RAM mounts, my old dept. tried those for a short time and they were total junk. Check on Galls website they have alot of different mounts. Spend the money and get a good solid mount and console.
Call the local PD and sign up for a ride along...EZPZ.

This! I would check with Golden PD, they have new systems in most or all of their cars. Jeffco might be refitting soon too, Wheat Ridge has the tough books, and so does Broomfield.

Thanks. I looked into this for a few of the PDs, but there usually is a requirement to go to classes for a while first. Also, some restrict by age - I believe it was Adams county that only does it if your between 14 and 21. I'll look further into it.

Ya, Panasonic has about 75% of the market. I've heard the same thing about RAM mounts and we pretty much partner with Havis, but I don't actually sell the mounts so it's the cusotmer's discretion on that.

Thanks, I'll check with those folks.
Check with Fire & EMS. No classes and some might enjoy some company for a few hours.
Yep, Panasonic Toughbook with a cell or other wifi connection.. Nothing special..
Actually, all they are doing is using them to access a database, they could easily replace the $3000 Toughbooks with a $300 iPad these days.
sent from a soup can and some string..

Good thought. Thanks. They may even put up with me for a while. :)

I've seen some counties using ipads for utilities and things like that, not in PD yet, but I'm relatively new so it may be happening. Need to brush up on the Apps those folks are running as well...
Thanks.
I can send you some pics if that helps. Are you more interested in the mounting system?
You could probably get a ride with Brighton, Buie, Lupton, or WCSO fairly easy. Just call their records, fill out the form (they'll run a BG check) and you are good to go.

I'm not a cop. But we have on board pcs in our work vehicle, you're more than welcome to look at it. It's a ruggedized touch screen with attachable keyboard.

Thanks for the offer on the pics, but I have quite a few of those. Really looking to be able to see it in person. I'll look into Brighton since that would be really convenient location wise. Thanks!

I'd certainly take you up on that and it seems we might be pretty close. I'll send you a PM to see if it works to get together for a few minutes. Thanks.

Man, what is with tough laptops and real mounts? I have a regular laptop with a wifi hotshot siting on a cabinet with magnets holding it still in my work truck. that is all you need.

Until you get in a crash.
