I have never shot my revolver in competition, but I have experience shooting IDPA and a little IPSC. I understand there is a big match at the Weld County Gun Club this coming weekend, so this might be a good opportunity to get a taste of ICORE. Eight stages, 200+ rounds sounds like a great time. Got a few quick questions:

I have a holster that fits my revolver, but I don't have moonclip carriers. Are moonclips required to be carried on the belt or can I just keep them in my pocket?

What are the stages going to be like and what is the typical round count per stage? As far as targets and distance go, I assume it is just like an IPSC match, but with revolvers, right?

Yes and yes. You'll find out what you need by contacting the wcfw icore guys.

I will be there. Several of us from the forum actually.

If you dont have moonclip carriers thats fine, you can use your pocket. Or, tell me what caliber (45 or 38) you have and I will bring a bunch of spares.

Typical ICORE round count is under 28-30 and every stage is 6 round neutral.

Stages are just like an IDPA or IPSC stage using NRA D-1 Targets that look like tombstones or R2D2s. Scoring is heavily weighted for accuracy. Put them all inside the X or 10 ring and you are fine. Just like most other games, the further away you get from it the worse your time.

See you there.

Thank you, Hoser. I've been watching ICORE videos on youtube and it looks great! Would like to try DA shooting with my revolver. I'll make up my mind shortly and I would love to borrow the .38 carriers. I'm going to use .357 magnum ammo, so I assume the carrier is the same as it is for the .38 clips.

My advice would be to run 38s instead of 357s due to case length. Even with 38s the ejection rod on my SW 686 is marginal and the cases will stick if I don't run it just right. With 357s you may end up having to pluck the cases moon and all. Frustrating when you are on the clock.

Thank you, Erni, but my cases don't stick at all. Perhaps because they're nickel plated. Besides, I love the .357 magnum boom and flash, which is why I bought this revolver in the first place :-)

They are, however, very difficult to reload into the cylinder because the moonclips are long and wobbly. I don't mind it this time, since I'm not showing up to win my first ever revolver match, especially since this is some sort of a state championship or something. If I stick with ICORE after this, I'll have to research some faster alternatives like stiffer clips, speed loaders, or maybe a shorter cartridge such as .38 spec or even shorter.

If you can, try holding the cylinder as close to 100% plumb with the ground as possible.

And, of course, have fun :D

Fun times yesterday for sure.

The Revo gang in Weld County puts on a solid match.
