Delinquent children are much more likely than their nondelinquent peers to die violently later in life, a study finds. And girls who ended up in juvenile detention were especially vulnerable, dying at nearly five times the rate of the general population.
"This was astonishing," says Linda Teplin, a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Northwestern University's medical school and the lead author of the study.
Hmmm really? If you go to jail as a kid you are more likely to be a criminal as an adult (and therefore at higher risk). I'm astonished that it took a study to figure this out and that someone is (acting) surprised by the results.
The actual story leads into how we need to treat these people and keep them out of jail so they don't die early. Only one gratuitous mention of them all dying by guns then they just used violent death or homicide.
