I have been kind of been interested in them. So wanted to see what you all who own one or have shot one think about them.

I got to shoot one and it was the smoothest 1911 ive gotten to shoot. Best 1911 one can buy short of going custom imo.

I've had one for many years, and it's my mainstay for a range / competition gun. I changed the sights and regularly change out the springs, but other than that, it's stock. It really is a nice 1911 (probably one of the best production 1911's out there), but some things you should know.

20lpi checkering is REALLY aggressive. Some people can't get used to it. You can always knock 'em down a bit, but those points are sharp.

It's about the heaviest 1911 you can find.

Many of the parts are MIM / injection molded. I don't like the idea. Some absolutely refuse to have them in a gun. It's a cheaper way to make parts, but in my experience if they're done right, they'll last. If done wrong, it will break in the first 250 rounds. Again, in my TRP, I haven't had a hitch in tens of thousands of rounds (I really have no idea of the round count).

The last annoying thing IMHO is they use proprietary parts. The mainspring housing isn't the same as a normal 1911 mainspring housing (the spring isn't retained inside with a pin, and it has an internal lock). Therefore, the hammer strut isn't a normal 1911 hammer strut... it's shorter. Titanium firing pin with a special spring weight. Just a few examples. It's not the end of the world to switch these things out, and like I said, I still run it stock, but it bugs me that it's not plug and play 1911 parts.

All said and done, it's a really nice 1911. I'll note that when I bought mine, they went for around $1,250. I think I've seen one recently for about $1,550.

I haven't priced them out lately, but I think the gap between top end production 1911's and entry level in the semi-custom world has narrowed. If you're considering a TRP, I'd look at Les Baer too... should just be a few hundred different, and a step up you won't regret.

Good luck, and let us know what you wind up with.

Oh. One last gripe. There's billboarding all over the gun. There isn't a square inch that doesn't say "tactical" or something. Just a personal preference, but to me it kind of detracts from the looks.
