I have a possible career opportunity in Charlotte NC, and was curious if any of our members have any feedback?
Pros & cons?

If you love humidity and biting creepy crawlers, it's the place for you........
They have sweet golf courses there though!

Yep. pretty much anywhere east of the Miss. has the same perks.
9 out of 10 NASCAR teams are within a hundred miles of there. Give you something to do on the weekends.

a couple years ago my Dad moved to that area but 15-20 miles south. He said most professionals live in South Carolina and commute to Charlotte. Charlotte has high crime according to the yearly statistics I read, higher taxes and higher fuel costs. Just across the border in South Carolina everything is cheaper.

I lived there from 96 to 97, about a year and a half total. For a Southern city, it's not bad. Pretty decent nightlife from what I recall (I was a full time student at the time, going to school at UNCC.) If you like outdoor recreation it kind of blows, though. You have to drive 3 - 4 hours East/SE to the beach and the same West/NW to get to the mountains. Not much public land for recreation. If you love golf, it's great, Golf and NASCAR are pretty much the main recreation activities there. Fishing, I guess (I'm not a fisherman so I don't know for sure.) Summers are hot and humid, not terrible but not great, either.
There are some pretty run-down, scary neighborhoods, like there re in a lot of Southern cities. I worked security and we had to patrol everything from nice gated communities to the projects.
My knowledge is more than 15 years old but I remember the cost of living being very low.
Lived in different parts of NC for close to ten years.
Charlotte was my favorite city by far, but it is the southeast, so that is not saying much.
It is young and vibrant with a lot of food/drink options, spread out though
I got to bet it is now more expensive than CSprings area, so the SCarolina option could be appealing, but suburban boredom.
The go to water spots are Lake Wylie in SC, Lake Norman north of Charlotte. Lake Norman was much "cooler" Wilmington Beach is 3 1/2 hours.
Only befriended one couple who was local, everyone else was recently from out of state, so you will not be alone as a transplant.
Total crap areas abound, West Charlotte is their Aurora stereotype. Dilworth is their Cherry Creek.
Highest peaks are in 6000s, but when you do 4000 vert anywhere, then with humidity, you will be challenged. 2 1/2 hours away.
I am glad I lived there, but would not move back, unless job was real sweet.

I knew a guy who was a tail gunner on a Budweiser truck in Charleston, he liked the place!

I live a couple hours away from there. If you end up moving out this way, shoot me a PM and we'll link up. I have 22 acres you can come shoot and hunt on.

Just to resurrect a dead thread: I took the job in Charlotte...
I've been there twice thus far (one for interview, and another for house searching).
As someone born and raised in VA, I will say this:
Trees.
Bass fishing, and if I drive 4hrs, I'll be back into the Atlantic and the wonderful seafood!
Hospitality. Everyone there was nice. From the time my fiancee and I got off the airplane, to the time we got back on it, people were friendly...
SPACE. The house one can buy there, with the acreage, is easily double what one can buy here (and that's Fountain, not C/S or Denver).
I have met a great, honorable group of guys on this forum FTF (Charger, DSB, Sabot, Hoser, Powerstroke, Jerry, Sabot, etc), and wish you all the best! Just cut out the bickering![LOL]

No I haven't. I've been so wrapped up into juggling my move, prepping the house for sale, and new & soon to-be ex employer I can't even keep track of time..
But thank you Great One, & I'll check that site.
I'll still "lurk" here as I have since 04. I enjoy & learn from watching everyone's viewpoint (minus the name-calling).
Oh, and I'll be able to buy 16+ mags and swap firearms again...[Beer]

Not so fast there sparky. Long guns are g2g, however to obtain a pistol (purchase, trade, etc) you need either A) a NC CCW permit, or B) a "Pistol Purchase Permit," which is a notarized piece of paper that costs $5-$10 at the sheriff's dept of your resident county that basically says "yeah we did a BGC on this dude and he's clean". The PPP is very easy to obtain, you just fill out a request form and pay the fee and generally can be done online, but takes a week or 2 to process. You can get 5 PPPs at once and they're good for 5 years.
And yes, even private parties do make sure you have one.

Best of luck! I was out there a couple of years back for a couple of days for work. Everyone we met was great. I loved the DT area. I actually ran into a guy from TX that hired me and got me into the electrical industry while I was there. Complete and total surprise.
