Next, problem, moving out of the house and looking at the yard!!

Front yard: There are weeds and just patches of dirt. Is there a weed killer I could spray on the yard that won't hurt what grass is there? Or is it better to get on my broken knees and actually pull all the weeds physically?... How do I get grass growing in the dirt patches? There is a lone pine in the front that looks like some of it is dead, do I just prune off the dead branches, it would look weird...

Backyard: Is a complete wreck. First it's on a steep hill. There is a ton of OOOOLLLLLDDDD woodwork that looks like Miyagi's Backyard from Karate Kid everywhere. Then I have a tree that is growing chutes out of the ground (through rock...) Half of the hill is reinforced with BIG rocks, etc. So, how do I stop the tree from growing sprouts everywhere? I would like to get rid of the big rocks and terrace the yard somehow but have no idea where to start. Open to suggestions? I would call a "landscaper" but lack the thousands needed to actually employ one or the hundreds for them to draw up a plan (I've already called a few in the area and asked)! HA!

General: There is some rock and woods and just "stuff" that I'd like to get rid of... how does one go about doing that? I heard from one source I can take it to a landfill but another person said no. It's Saturday and when I tried to call landfill, got no answer...

I know this is probably very basic stuff for y'all... But this is my first house, yard, etc... so... thanks....

Weed Be Gone comes in a 1 gallon spray container for use on larger areas and use Scott's Weed "N" Feed fertilizer.

Yards need to look good if your selling, Give it a good spruce-up for 500-800 or more and double that in return on the sale. Don't kill the soil with weed b gone etc. High School kids are good for this type of thing, they are strong, cheap and many are durable.
Good investment in my opinion, real estate is hot right now..

Weednfeed works for broadleaf like dandelions.

If you want to save one type of plant in an area you need to know what you want to kill.

Another option is roundup sprayed directly at the base of the weed.

I give my yard waste to the trash can. Some companies are more sensative. Theyll charge if they find to much in the can. 2 gallons worth in a standard trash can is usually a safe bet. Better if you throw it in a contractors black trash bag

Weed Be Gone comes in a 1 gallon spray container for use on larger areas and use Scott's Weed "N" Feed fertilizer.

"Weed n Feeds" are for BASIC application. if he's got that big of a problem, it's no easy task. I took my yard down to dirt, and took 1.5 years to get it lush and where it was a great backyard.

The concentrates are good to kill all the weeds, a good herbicide to kill off all the weeds. Then once you have dirt, you need to till in a good seed AND fertilizer. then water, water, and more water. it will take some time, and a few dead presidents, but it can be done.

PM me if you want more specifics. There is a science behind it.

Flyboy, PM inbound... hopefully it won't be too expensive... I'm a lowly teacher and the yard is not "big" by any stretch.

If you spray Roundup it will kill the weeds & the grass will come back; if it's mostly weeds then what do you have to lose. Pulling weeds after the ground has been moistened is the easiest, like after a rain.

As far as the removal of unwanted items, last resort should be a landfill directly, they usually charge a straight fee; I use the Bestway Transfer Station off Marksheffel & Space Village, they charge by weight.

I recycle as much Wood, Rock, clippings, metal, etc. etc. as possible; it's usually cheaper than the dump.

Try to re-purpose as much as possible by redesigning the layout & incorporate the desirable pieces you already have on hand .

Wat type of rock are you trying to get rid of? Size? Maybe pics? I'm looking for rock for a project... And what exactly do you mean by old Woodwork? Again, pics would help.

What at is the sq footage of your yard? Back yard sounds like a real chore, but the front yard definitely sounds like a doable project. Without pictures it's hard to tell what direction you should go in, but I'm inclined to suggest tilling up the front yd and re-sodding it.

I'm not a landscaper, but I worked for one for 3 years and I played one on TV. I also love DIY landscape projects.

Based on the description in the first post (not sure if it was exaggerated but it sounds like it's in pretty rough shape), if it needs to look good this year, get a rototiller and after a day or two with that, lay sod. It's not as costly as one might think and it's instant-lawn.

I had a serious weed problem years ago that I just couldn't take care of. Pulling them was a temporary solution since if you didn't get every bit of the root out they would eventually come back. I finally broke down and started having Trugreen come out and treat them. I no longer have a weed problem. Now, if I could just get my stupid sprinkler system working better maybe I could keep the darn grass greener. I'm getting close to just paying someone to come check it out or replace the heads or something. My back yard is the main problem are. It's a little over 10,000 square feet of grass and has practically no shade so the sun just beats down on it constantly. I should probably plant a couple of trees back there as the grass that does get shade seems to do way better back there. I just need to find a tree that will grow quickly rather than one that takes ten or fifteen years.
