So we went out shooting an ar today and have the top 2/3 of the case get stuck in the chamber. So my questions are what causes this? And how do I get stuck partial case out? It was a reload but no signs of over pressure that I could see. I have the piece that some what ejected and can take a picture if it will help.
Wooden dowel and tap it out.
I assume whoever reloaded short stroked during resizing.

Broken case extractor.
Numerous causes possible, usually the head just gets torn off, I would think it unusual for the case to get separated midway.
I will have this happen from time to time, generally my 5th-7th reload on hot loads. Some say it comes from overworking the brass but for me I think it is more likely just brass fatigue. Before you prime but after you have sized you can take a small metal something (paperclip, Allen wrench) and feel from the base to the neck on the inside of the case. If you feel a ridge about 1/4 to 1/3 up then throw the case away.
Shooting steel by chance?
Shooting steel by chance?
It was a reload
I would seriously doubt it was a steel case.
Had a steel case stuck pretty bad in my chamber once.
