View Full Version : New to Fountain
PCS lands me at Fort Carson. New to the area and interested in shooting my AR-15 and 1911. Any suggestions for ranges?

Cheyenne Mountian range right outside of Gate 20 is pretty nice. That's where I go if I don't feel like driving into the mountians. And welcome!

Welcome!
I came from Ft. Benning in GA. Hometown to Northeast TN
Many of us have been through Ft. Benning.
Glad you made it on board.[Beer]
Currently in Zabul, Afghanistan and ran across this site. With all the bans in place around Colorado it's nice to see local guys with the passion for the range.

Stay safe Brother-we'll keep up the good fight back here while you do yours over there [gihad]

Thank you everyone for the welcome. Is it just me or is this "Jack Carbine" worth adding to the Christmas list?

Range 1 (Privately Owned Weapons/POW) range on Ft Carson. Take the class given at range control every Sat (1300 hrs - I think) to get your range card. Ten covered shooting positions, range is marked out to 300 meters. They provide the targets, stands, stapler, staples. You need one other ID card holder to open the range with you if it's not already open. Open every day, sunrise to sunset. The only downside is your weapons need to be registered on post if you ever get checked at the gate or the range.
Nice its good to know these things about the post you are assigned to. "TennVol" are you from TN or just a fan?

Welcome to the forum and Colorado! The public range by gate 20 at Ft Carson is pretty nice, but it can be awfully crowded on the weekends. There are a few private clubs in town too. Whistling pines is about a 15-20 minute drive to the East from Ft Carson. Frontier Sportsman's Club is about a 25 minute drive to the South. The new Magnum Shooting Center on North Gate rd is about 20 mins to the a North. National Forest land is free to shoot in, but make sure you follow all posted signs, be respectful, and clean up after yourself. Enjoy!

Welcome to FCC and the forum. HoneyBadger gave you great list of local ranges. Frontier Sportsman's also has a range near Hwy 24 and Garrett Road. Hours are 0730 to sunset Monday through Saturday and 0800 to 1700 on Sundays. Of course a membership or member escort is required for Frontier's ranges. When you get back, give me shout if you'd like to check one of them out. Be safe and thank you for your continued service!
Finally back stateside and ready to hit the range. Which of these ranges will allow you to set up practice stage for IDPA?

Frontier Sportsmans' Hanover range (the southern one) will. Not sure about any other local ranges.
