As some here know I took a full time gig running a machine shop a couple of weeks ago.
Been hectic and long hours but not a bad gig so far.
We do a bunch of hydraulic cylinder rebuilding like making new cylinders, rods, piston etc.
Just wanted to toss out a pic of the latest fun, I have to build 3 new cylinders that are 14' long, 8" in diameter 3/4" wall steel tubing. They weigh in at about a half ton each. Tolerances are 3-5 thousandths of an inch.
The lathe they are run on has a 38" chuck (mine at my shop is an 8") and the headstock which is where all the gearing and controls are is the size of two refrigerators.
Fun! You just don't want a chip from it smacking you in the face, red hot and about a 1/4" wide.46369Yup, that's a Pepsi can.
Smooth bore cannon anyone?
