Kazoo, Big E3 and I were sitting on the porch of our group home today, waving bye-bye to passing traffic with imbecilic grins on our empty moon-like faces, taking a break from looking for car-wash or recycling center jobs, discussing that very subject. It was a grand day which, sadly, I may not remember tomorrow.

I've shot a couple hi points, one of them for several rounds, never had any malfunctions. They are cheap, they are ugly, and they aren't very accurate (in my experience), but unreliable they are not (also in my experience).

The .45 model weighs 32oz, same as a 1911. It's 9+1, making it higher capacity than one, even with a Wilson Combat mag.

Well, they're top heavy as shit anyway. The .40 cal I shot was a jam-o-matic, sloppy, and just fugly. I guess you can always throw it at the aggressor or maybe he would die laughing at it first?
"Based on a simple blowback (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blowback_%28arms%29) design, Hi-Point pistols do not have a breech-locking system like most handguns. Instead they have large, heavy slides that hold the breech closed through sheer mass. The result is a heavier gun, for its size, that is bulkier and may be less aesthetically appealing than designs employing recoil operation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recoil_operation). Pistols that use a blowback action in the calibers that Hi-Point firearms are chambered for are somewhat rare.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hi-Point_Firearms#cite_note-1) While making the pistols heavier, this design also makes them mechanically simple and easy to maintain. Hi-Point recommends hosing out the action with a powder solvent like Break Free Powder Blast, Rem Oil or another aerosol solvent, then every 300-400 rounds running a cleaning brush through the barrel."

I actually own one in .45... use it when I'm working up a new load... if it doesn't show pressure signs in the 'point, then I'll put them in my 1911.
